A couple in Barcelona has filed a complaint about the death of their 18 -month -old daughter, allegedly, because the doctors confused an intestinal obstruction with diabetes.

According to the complaint, which Europa Press has had access, on the night of August 26, 2010, the couple, who was on vacation in Lleida, took their daughter to the hospital because she had strong pain in the abdomen and had vomited the bottle, the 'avui' has advanced.

After the first explorations, they were told that the girl was very dehydrated and had gastroenteritis and, after the blood glucose test, the doctors concluded that the girl was diabetic, "an obviously adventurous and reckless diagnosis, without minimal testsComplementary to verify what was the reason for the high level of blood sugar. "

The doctors did not perform the girl more tests, and proposed to the parents their transfer to the Vall Hebron (Barcelona) hospital, which has a specialized unit, which should occur the next morning with a helicopter.

At the early hoursDiabetes, which at that time "should have been discarded."

At no time was the child performed a radiological test or an ultrasound that, according to the complaint, could have detected that the girl had an intestinal obstruction that could have been treated.

The complaint ensures that the doctors did not take into account the accelerated breathing of the girl, the high pulsations, or a new glucose test, which showed that the sugar level was much lower than that of a few hours before and limited themselves to waiting for the transfer, a behavior that, according to the complaint, "clearly violated the most elementary care standards."

The little girl died around six in the morning and the autopsy demonstrated the obstruction, which could have been detected with a test.

The doctor who directly made the decisions and the doctor responsible for the service will declare next week before the Tremp courts, as they have explained to Europa Press judicial sources.

Complaints for not covering the casualties

According to the complaint, the parents have been able to know after the facts that the Generalitat had made the decision to vary the management of the hospital due to the complaints of some services.

Specifically, they say that some casualties of specialist doctors were not covered during the holidays and on weekends.

It is a reality that as you do not have a totally obvious abdominal problem (a diarrhea, for example) half of the doctors do not even know how to deal with you.And I say it with knowledge of the cause that I have been with stomach pain and nausea and even without diagnosis, but that, taking medication that is useless.
