FORUM RULES
Welcome to Diabetes Forum!
Diabetes Forum is an online community for people with diabetes and for everyone whose life is connected to diabetes in one way or another: family members, partners, friends, caregivers and people interested in learning more about diabetes.
Above all, this forum is a place to share. Here we can talk about our experiences, ask questions, learn from others and support one another.
What makes this community valuable is not only the information it contains, but also the experiences of the people who take part in it. That is why we want to maintain an environment that is respectful, welcoming, safe and useful for everyone.
These rules complement the General Terms of Use and Privacy Policy of Diabetes Forum.
1. Respect and Empathy
There is a person behind every message.
Respect the opinions, experiences and circumstances of others, even when they are different from your own.
Insults, threats, harassment, personal attacks, discrimination, deliberate provocation or behaviour intended to intimidate or harm other members of the community are not permitted.
Discussion and disagreement are welcome. We simply ask that they remain respectful.
2. We Share Experiences, We Don't Compete
Everyone experiences diabetes differently.
A treatment, device, diet, routine or strategy that works well for one person may not be appropriate for another.
Avoid judging other users based on their glucose management, HbA1c, diet, weight, treatment, use of technology or any other aspect of their diabetes.
The purpose of the forum is to help one another, not to prove who manages their diabetes better.
3. Medical Information and Personal Experiences
Diabetes Forum allows users to share experiences and health-related information, but it does not replace professional healthcare.
When discussing treatments, medications, insulin, devices or diabetes management strategies, try to clearly distinguish between:
your personal experience;
information obtained from a reliable source;
and advice provided by a healthcare professional.
Do not present a personal experience as a universal medical fact.
For decisions that may affect treatment, medication, insulin doses or any other clinical matter, each person should consult the healthcare professionals responsible for their care.
4. Miracle Cures and Health Misinformation
Diabetes Forum must not be used to promote supposed diabetes cures, miracle treatments, products or methods that could put other people's health at risk.
We may remove content containing clearly false or potentially dangerous health claims, particularly where such claims are presented as proven facts without a reasonable basis.
This does not mean that new research, experimental treatments, complementary therapies or different points of view cannot be discussed.
Debate is welcome. Misleading or dangerous promotion is not.
5. Privacy: Think Before You Post
Diabetes Forum contains public areas.
Messages posted in these areas may be viewed by anyone and may appear in search engines such as Google.
Avoid publishing information that you do not want to make public, especially:
your full name or other identifying information;
your postal address;
your telephone number;
identity documents;
medical information that is not necessary for the discussion;
photographs or documents containing private information.
Do not publish personal or medical information about other people without their permission.
If you share screenshots, medical reports, test results or other documents, check first that they do not contain information that could identify you or someone else.
6. Minors
Public content on Diabetes Forum may be viewed by people of different ages.
The minimum age for creating an account and independently participating in Diabetes Forum is 14 years, in accordance with our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
We ask everyone to take particular care when a discussion may involve minors.
Do not publish information that could identify or locate a minor, such as their address, telephone number, school or other private information.
7. Advertising, Spam and Self-Promotion
Diabetes Forum must not be used primarily as an advertising platform.
Unauthorised advertising or spam includes, among other behaviours:
repeatedly posting links primarily to generate traffic;
promoting your own products or services without adding genuine value to the discussion;
sending unsolicited commercial messages;
creating accounts primarily to promote a company, product, website, channel or service;
using automated systems to publish promotional content.
Sharing a useful link within a discussion is perfectly acceptable when it provides relevant information.
The difference lies in the purpose: participating in the community is not the same as using the community to generate traffic or customers.
8. Diabetes Associations and Organisations
Diabetes associations have a special place in our community.
They may use the appropriate areas of the forum to provide information about activities, meetings, campaigns, initiatives and other matters of interest to people with diabetes.
We ask that these posts are transparent about the organisation promoting them and that their purpose is informational or community-focused.
9. Commercial Content and Conflicts of Interest
If you have a professional, financial or commercial relationship with a product, company or service you are discussing, clearly disclose it.
This includes, for example, working for a company, receiving products free of charge, being paid to promote them or using affiliate links.
Transparency allows other users to properly assess a recommendation.
Diabetes Forum may remove unauthorised commercial or promotional content.
10. Third-Party Content and Intellectual Property
Do not publish complete articles, books, photographs, documents or other copyrighted material unless you have permission to do so.
You may share links and quote short excerpts where appropriate for commenting on or discussing information.
Whenever possible, mention or link to the original source.
11. Artificial Intelligence and Automated Content
Artificial intelligence tools may be used to help write, translate, summarise or improve a message.
However, Diabetes Forum is a community based primarily on real human experiences.
Automated systems or artificial intelligence must not be used to mass-generate topics, replies, spam or content intended to create the false impression of genuine human participation.
Users remain responsible for any content they publish, regardless of the tools used to create it.
12. One Person, One Responsible Identity
Do not use accounts to impersonate other people, healthcare professionals, organisations or companies.
Do not use multiple accounts to manipulate discussions, artificially support your own opinions, circumvent a suspension or mislead other members.
13. Reporting Content
If you find a message that you believe violates these rules, please use the reporting tools available on the forum.
You may also contact:
There is no need to start a public argument with the user who posted the content.
Reports will be reviewed by the moderation team and handled with appropriate confidentiality.
14. Moderation
Diabetes Forum has a team of moderators who volunteer their time to help maintain the proper functioning of the community.
Moderators may intervene when content or behaviour violates these rules or significantly disrupts the forum.
Depending on the circumstances, they may:
ask a user to change their behaviour;
edit certain elements of a post where necessary;
move or close discussions;
hide or remove content;
temporarily restrict certain features;
temporarily suspend an account;
permanently ban an account in serious or repeated cases.
Measures will be taken according to the nature, severity and frequency of the behaviour.
Not every mistake requires a ban. Whenever reasonable, we prefer to correct before excluding.
15. Confidentiality of Reports and Moderation Decisions
Private communications sent to the moderation team and the identity of users who report content will be handled with appropriate confidentiality.
Private messages, personal information and details of communications with moderators will not be unnecessarily made public.
For privacy reasons and to avoid conflicts between users, the moderation team is not required to publicly disclose all details of measures taken regarding another user's account.
16. Moderation Decisions Are Intended to Protect the Community
Moderation decisions are intended to encourage participation, respect and the usefulness of Diabetes Forum.
Moderation is not intended to decide who is right in every discussion or to impose a single way of living with diabetes.
Its purpose is to maintain an environment where people with different experiences and opinions can share them respectfully.
17. Kindness and Support
There are times when a technical explanation can be extremely helpful.
And there are other times when someone simply needs to know that another person understands what they are going through.
At Diabetes Forum, we believe that experience, empathy and support between people are just as important as information.
A kind response can sometimes help more than a perfect one.
18. Common Sense
No set of rules can anticipate every possible situation.
If you are unsure before posting something, ask yourself:
Is it respectful? Is it useful? Would I say it the same way if that person were standing in front of me?
These three questions can resolve many of the issues that arise in any community.
Thank You for Being Part of Diabetes Forum
These rules exist to protect something we have built together: a place where someone can ask a question about diabetes and find another person who understands what it means to live with it.
Share, ask, help and allow others to help you.
Together, we make Diabetes Forum.
