It is not so modern :)
She recommends 130g HC /day because it is the current estimate of energy consumption by the brain.
Of course there is bread, fruit, pasta, rice ... but any diabetic that has been attentive to the operation of insulin with these foods knows that they are difficult to control.
From day 1 I discarded rice, pasta and bread. The fruit 1 piece at food and dinner.

Dear tigrecito:
I can't clarify what you tell me;I do not have a broad knowledge of fructose metabolism; What I do know is that part transforms into glucose and part enters directly into the cell.
Anyway, fructose is the toxic part of sugar.
Dr. Robert Lustig has widely studied the effects of fructose in the USA in which high fructose corn syrup is widely used to sweeten ..

Dr. Ian Lake completes a 730 mile race in 5 weeks to prove the effectiveness of carbohydrates in type 1 diabetes

August 23, 2018

Dr. Ian Lake is a 59 -year -old head doctor and has lived with type 1 diabetes for 23 years.During the first 20 years it was a classic diet. After starting to have complications with diabetes, it became a very low diet in carbohydrates with transformative results.

During the last 3 years, following a low lifestyle in carbohydrates, all its HBA1C readings have been in the non -diabetic range during the last 18 months, all but one of the HBA1C readings have been in the normal population range. As a result of its new energy and a second wind, it has successfully completed a year of a monthly marathon following a low lifestyle in carbohydrates.Type 1 diabetes, even when resistance sports are taken into account.

The 730 Miles race
Recently, Ian completed a 730 mile race, running an average of 20 miles per day.Although he knew it was possible for him, he had never done so much.Even so, it was determined to demonstrate once again that a lifestyle with low carbohydrate content is a valid management option for people with type 1 diabetes.

The race was alone, without support and involved in some wild camp.Ian has 5 kg of his team in a backpack. He used the local accommodation: "I buy my food in any store on the road ... but it has been a challenge to obtain a good selection of low carbohydrates in the most remote areas."Part of the Earth was exhausting and has experienced daytime temperatures exceeding 30 degrees.

On average, 9% carbohydrates, 69% fat and 22% protein, by calories. In comparison, the diet that is currently recommended to people with diabetes mellitus is approximately 55-60% carbohydrates.By eating the demand from his food body, instead of any particular calorie target, he initially lost 9 pounds in a part of the race, before maintaining his stable weight for the rest."After a lot of experimentation, I came to the conclusion: eat when you are hungry, drink water when you are thirsty. Listen to the body, simple. It has worked for me," says Ian.

Ian has monitored its glucose and ketones levels worldwide. He took his insulin through pen injections, maintaining an average glucose level of 7.0 mmol / L with an HBA1c of 39 mmol / mol (which is within the normal range) at the end of the 730 miles. He maintained his ketones within the range of nutritional ketosis, without risk of diabetic ketoacidosis. He also noticed that he was only in the middle of the episodes of hypoglycemia, and that he was able to do most of the time.

Ian's thoughts on low carbohydrate diets in type 1 diabetes
"My life has been completely transformed for the Book of the Diabetes Solution of Richard Bernstein, accidentally in Google. In embarrassing, as a doctor, I had never found myself in my general practice field and I know that a large number of specialists inDiabetes have not done so.of a diabetes or another crisis that looms on it every day.

And I'm not just me.There are other doctors worldwide with type 1 diabetesThey do the same with the same excellent results, many people who opt for this lifestyle, benefit of cutting carbohydrates.

It simply makes the control of diabetes much easier, less carbohydrates means less insulin.Smaller doses of insulin to reduce glucose levels in glucose levels and cause ketoacidosis and hypos.I know I will never return insulin, and it is a lifeguard, but

With Nice's current practice, only 3% of people obtain the relatively modest objective of 48 mmol / mol. However, in a low -income community (Type1grit), mainly children, only 3% does not reach that level. There is something very bad with 97% of the population of the population cannot achieve the objective.

I think it is well tested and low carbohydrates diets in type 1 diabetes at an extreme level and is shown as a very safe option for some people with type 1 diabetes to take into account. For many people, this is the path of misery of everyday erratic problems with control, improving the sensation of well -being and the reduction of long -term complications. "

Dr Lake is collaborating with Grohealth, the people behind diabetes.co.uk and the creators of the Low Carb Program, to produce a program that allows people with diabetes.lifestyle.Health professionals can also use the program: www.type1Program.com.

As I said in my presentation I also follow the low food in hydrates and although I do not make the diet proposed by Dr Bernstein to the letter thanks to many of his ideas today I have an HBA1C less than 6 (right now 5.3)And not drinking rice, pastes etc and base my food on vegetables, proteins such as corral and turkey chicken and fish, both blue and white, kefir etc etc has changed my life.
We have to respect ourselves. Who wants to continue with the food that they tell us in diabetological education to do so, who does not careA glycosilada less than 7 are over your problems because it is not, at least for me.
And I tell you that the pregnancy of my second daughter was with a low diet in hydrates and I noticed many changes but until recentAnd find myself well without being tired and no hypos of more than 60 and notice it when I previously reached 40 without finding out.My husband has told me that I have changed in everything for better and he knows me since I started to direct the diabetes almost 10 years ago but until a few months ago I did not feel as vital as now and the addition to CH slow does not exist as a dayToday at least for me
But what has been said, respect for all forms but I feel safer like this and my analytics also say it in cholesterol

Totally agree with you @"isaserana".I have been in a good control as now, with very soft and hypos much softer glyce, they are corrected with half a glucose pill or a jellyfish.I no longer recover what is a hypo of those that you find fatal and there is no way to trace. And with much less effort than before. And that I don't follow the Dr Berstein diet strictly.
In the end it is a personal option and everyone has to decide what they prefer. It is not worth all the effort to be made of calculations, adjust ratios, weigh food, waiting times and others when you eat high in hydrates to have a worse control than now.I now do nothing, I don't expect to eat and I just go from 120 at specific times. For me that is much more close to someone's life without diabetes than the other and only the stress that I have removed from it is worth it.

Yes, the group is great and those in English too.In Spanish if I participate a lot, surely you have seen my comments, I am one of the administrators hehehe we already have several toilets and some nutritionist who can provide a lot of good information. And the recipes that some people are also a pass, give you many ideas.
I have retinopathy in both eyes, in a very initial phase, luckily and totally stable. They make me review every 6 months to control and for the moment remains the same. With good control I don't think I go to more.Dr Berstein himself had several diabetes complications when he started with all this Low Carb and there is 84 years of health.

I just read the whole thread and my mother as we are human beings ... that each one does whatever does it well and above all that there is respect!
I personally continue a low diet in HC for years, mainly not as refined flours, when as HC come from legumes, vegetables, etc. and the truth that since I removed the refined flours and of course the defendants of my life, improved withYou grow blood glucose control. No talk is needed, it is from Galician pine wooden drawer, there is no more, which happens that it is difficult to leave certain habits and more when the majority of the population has them.
Regarding sport, the same, I do sports almost daily and I do not usually have hypoglycemia, in my case, I usually do it on an empty stomach and it is phenomenal, but this is a melon that I prefer not to open because if with the Low Carb carbPeople go crazy I don't want to imagine with the issue of flashing fasts :))
Greetings to all!

@"Nigiri" The Los Cajón de los Extemplante better leave it closed because people get very scared and believe you are crazy hehehehe
I have made routes through the mountain, training in the Gym and the only race I have made in my life on an empty stomach and without problem. When wearing low hydrates diet we enter Cetosis and thus depend much less on glucose. For the race I went without dinner the day before (that was because I ate at 5 and I was not hungry for dinner) and without breakfast and I did not need to take any glucose or before or during the race. They were only 5km, but I had never run because it took about 40 minutes and got me to 130 during the race and at the end it went back to 80-90 that was the departure glucose so great. Now that I am getting a little more running I have to experience longer training on an empty stomach to see how. That if the friends who ran that day with me who were still alive without having eaten in almost 24 hours hehehe

This diet is that it sounds like hyperproteic diets that have become so famous and have no scientific basis. But I am wrong and this man has 20 articles published in BMJ and many others in Nature.Undoubtedly, my nutritionist should be doing an update in low carbohydrates.

Hi Yesssica, my 11 -year -old son debuted not a couple of months ago ... I am very interested in a low carb diet to maintain her glycemia, and we get along very well since before debuting we already had a fairly real diet. The FB group you mean is "Diabetes low in hydrates" or are there more groups?
I will explode my head so much to read, but what I would like is to find a good professional to supervise your nutrition. If you could advise me, I would appreciate it.

I have been making low diet in hydrates until November. Now I have put more.It costs me at some times to be more sustainable in time for example when it comes to breakfast in winter that I do not take yogurt because it is cold, but when I have been very good for a long time and my glycosilada went down a lot, I have been quite well that time andThe rest of my analytics too.The endocrine that took me since 2015 is quite pro low in hydrates.

@yarayraul The Facebook group is the one you say, there is a lot of information and Dr Berstein's book translated by group members.
As a professional I recommend Rosy Yañez that is also in the group and you can locate it in their blog or social networks looking for "Diabetesbien".It is also type 1 diabetic and carries low in hydrates over 12 years. What he says in his blog of his training:

"I am a doctor (PhD) in Nutrition and Cum Laude metabolism, collegiate dietitian-nutritionist (No. 109 Codinucat), specialized in diabetes (Mexican Diabetes Federation) and expert in complementary food self-regulated or baby-read weaning. I teach other professionals andPeople who want to learn how to get and maintain normal blood glucose levels most of the time.

I am currently a teacher's teacher and thesis tutor in the Nutrition and Health area at Unini, Barcelona.I have been a writer in more than 50 disclosure publications in health, nutrition and diabetes, and in my personal blog since 2008. Since 2005 I achieved and have maintained normal blood glucose levels most of the time (HBA1C of 4.8 to 5 to 5, 3%) and I have helped +500 people achieve it. "

In the blog she has a contact section where she can inform you in more detail.

What a change!Look that we did not carry it badly according to the endocrine, but you had to be correcting with glucose pills or running home for their meals, after having 180 or more peaks ... and now it has a constant glucose of 80-90 ... Up by maximum 120 if it is a "whim" of food. But it is a relief not to have to be so pending! And simply with food !!And look that we had a "healthy diet" but of course, at breakfast ate its integral toast with oil and some sausage, glass of milk and fruit !!Now faith discovered that this is impossible!
We will see how it is evolving, how the analysis is giving to see their growth and such, but of course, we are very happy with low carbohydrate feeding.
I also have quote with Dr. Sergio Menéndez of the Coimbra protocol

You will tell me how the Coimbra protocol, I have read about it and it is very interesting, perhaps being newly diagnosed to help you maintain the pancreatic reserve that you have left longer.Good luck
