Can you imagine a technological sock that helps them with your diabetes?
One of the main complications suffered by millions of people with diabetes focuses on the health of their feet.
The well -known diabetic foot is one of the most common consequences of bad diabetes control. In fact, the problem of bad glycemic control is added the painless diabetes, which causes when medical performance is necessary many times there is no possible solution.
To avoid this situation we have recently known that a group of researchers from the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicates Research in Würzburg and the Fraunhofer Institute of Circuits Integrated in Erlangen (Germany) have created a pressure monitoring system that allows the user to know when to changeposition, take a break or continue walking.
The system is based on a technological sock that could advise at every moment that type of position is more convenient to avoid the complications of diabetes.
The technological sock has 40 elastic sensors that combine their data to create a map of the pressure forces applied to the feet.
The technological sock is made of silicone film with flexible electrodes that allow the electrical connection. The measurement system is still something apparatus linked to the sock, but researchers are working in miniaturizing it and making it detachable.
They are also investigating how the technological sock can be washed, because water is the number one enemy of technology.
It is not the first technological sock that tries to fight the diabetic foot. Before, the University of Arizona had already made some similar ones.
Intelligent shoes have also been created that measure the pressure at the bottom of the foot, but the new device covers a significantly higher area, including ankle and the top of the foot.In this way the person with diabetes could have more information to avoid medical complication, thanks to this technological sock.
