The Sanitary Volunteers of the Association of Diabetics of the Altiplano Yecla-Jumilla returned to be installed in the Plaza Mayor to develop the early diabetes detection campaign.
It is always carried out on Wednesday, taking advantage of the large influx of public that is approaching the street weekly market, in order to make it a significant number of neighbors that undergo the corresponding determination of blood glucose, which this time were 1,300.
The tests are free, fast, simple and painless, and in just a few seconds it is known with certainty if the aforementioned disease is suffered.
On this occasion, this new campaign has allowed to diagnose two new cases of diabetics that did not know, so they will have to control the disease, under the optional prescription.
"A disease that in its first states can be controlled and with which the patient can lead a practically normalized life, with a balanced diet and also include some physical exercise," said the campaign coordinator, Ignacio Muñoz.
These types of preventive actions began in the municipality in 1999, because it is estimated that there are more than 3,000 patients who are diabetic, of which half are unknown «being a silent disease whose symptoms do not give the face, untilIt is not very advanced.
Hence the importance of performing the tests ».According to health estimates, 10% of the Spanish population suffers from this disease, and half of them do not know.
