The Asturian Diabetics Association (Alico) has organized on Saturday in Gijón a film-form session in which the documentary senior challenge will be broadcast, a history of overcoming.
The presentation and subsequent debate around the senior challenge will be responsible for Dr. Aida Maestro, specialist in Sports Medicine.The activity is part of the documentary dissemination project between patients and their friends and family, which will lead to projecting the tape in a total of 25 diabetes patients from all over Spain between 2014 and 2015.

The day -to -day diabetes
The tape shows the day to day of a marriage, whose two members have type 2 diabetes, to whom the challenge of improving the control of its pathology only through a change in their life habits was proposed.Thus, for 12 weeks, Mercedes and Paco have followed a diet, a training and motivation program and regular medical control, all adapted to their age and physical abilities.
In all this time, patients have had the supervision and support of a multidisciplinary team formed by their family doctor, Dr. Josep Franch, from the Raval Sud Primary Center (Barcelona);a nutritionist dietitian, Martina Miserachs;and a personal and professor of Physical Education, Felipe Isidro.
All of them have declared themselves surprised by the spectacular results achieved by Mercedes and Paco in a relatively short period of time and for the degree of involvement that the couple showed since the first week, as well as their commitment to follow the recommendations of experts beyondof overcoming the senior challenge.
Spectacular results
For his part, Dr. Josep Franch has emphasized that “Mercedes and Paco have shown that it is possible to keep an optimal control of diabetes simply with diet, exercise and a little will.It is an investment for the future, since they now have less possibilities of suffering complications that three months ago, so they need to continue this path. ”
And Mercedes has achieved a reduction of 2% of its average blood glucose levels (HBA1C), from 8.7 to 6.7%.Mercedes has also dropped by 4.3 kg. Its body weight (from 86.3 to 82 kg.) And in 12 cm its abdominal perimeter (from 112 to 100 cm.).
