The Gijonese cyclist Lorena Menéndez Fombona fulfilled the challenge that was proposed: to be the first woman suffering from diabetes who manages to finish the Raid of the Atlas and, in addition, did so ending in the second position of the general female classification.

The test had a 360 -kilometer distance that was covered in five stages.Three of them contained scoring sections, and in the first Lorena was first, while in the other two it was second, which finally gave him the second position in the final classification.

Lorena was at all times controlled by the Gynecology and Endocrinology Units of the Hospital de Cabueñes and now the Gijonesa aims to disseminate her experience with talks in schools and associations.
