We read this week in the generalist media that 94% of people with diabetes living in Spain penalties psychological support.Around diabetes there is a multitude of pathologies that condition the hope and quality of life of patients.Beyond the approach to the disease from the pharmacological and therapeutic point of view, which obviously is of enormous importance, an adequate treatment of the patient requires psychological assistance, which allows to know the opinion and concerns of the patients.
This is the main conclusion that a study of the Federation of Spanish Diabetics, the General Council of Psychologists and the Astrazeneca Foundation, which alarm about the fact that most diabetes patients have not received any type of psychological support have not received any type of psychological support.
According to this survey, 41% of patients who have received psychological support have accessed it through its reference hospital, a similar percentage in the case of patients who go to private centers.A fact that, according to Andoni Lorenzo, president of the Federation of Spanish Diabetics, "generates restlessness because it is an indicative that public health is not covering a necessary demand."
The study indicates that the most common emotional manifestations among patients after diagnosis are uncertainty and fear (34%), anxiety and anger (30.5%), stress (28.5%) and even depression(18.5%).All of them chapters in which the role of the professional for good psychological support becomes fundamental.
On the other hand, 58.3% of patients consider a professional psychological support for a quite useful treatment to face the disease, a normalization process that according to experts requires time and effort.If in the end it is the person who has to make the great decisions to control their diabetes its correct psychological state is transcendental.
