Fulton Moreira has entered the hospital four times in the last year and a half. The cause has always been the same: complications for its diabetes.

This 62 -year -old Portoveje was diagnosed about two years ago.But as he reflects, the problem comes from before.

"I have never taken care of me," he says.He currently weighs 250 pounds, about 80 pounds than he should have.
Moreira remembers that due to a fainting ended in the hospital and detected diabetes: the level of glucose in his blood, which should be between 100 and 110 mg/dl, was in 580.

Now he thinks that people must take care of themselves since they are young, exercise and think more about their health.

Álvaro Ponce, a diabetologist intensivist, says that although there are no accurate figures, it is estimated that ten percent of the population suffers from diabetes. He added that Manabí is considered to be the largest number of cases with respect to its population nationwide.

The specialist said the problem has its origin in poor diet, lack of physical activity and genetic factors.

Ponce recalled that this ailment is irreversible and that if it is not controlled, neurological, cardiac problems, in kidneys, eyes and other organs can be brought.

Anny Terán, a nurture doctor, questioned the bad combinations of food and the amounts that are usually ingested.

He explained that unfortunately there is the trend in our environment, for example, combining rice with potatoes, juices and more that have carbohydrates."In Manabí we have the habit of serving two or three glasses of juice, which is not recommended," he said.

The specialist said that each person must follow a diet according to their particular conditions and maintain a healthy diet.

Yesterday and today dozens of doctors from all over the province gathered at the Verdi Cevallos Balda hospital for academic days to update knowledge regarding diabetes.

These are doctors who attend in public subcentros and who are the first to detect this type of ailments.Ponce explained that it is expected to improve the initial guides and treatment of the patients.

Already, but it is very easy to talk about bad akimentation, it is difficult to find all the genetics involved. And it makes me very angry that these statements make the "nutritionists" those, because people think that we are diabetic is because we are sometragons and we have looked for what we have
Not sir, if we did not have risk genes we would never develop diabetes or disappear when you lose weight.
That they occupy the gene therapy, who investigate altered genes and let us be of what we eat.And I don't care in La1, q in La2.
It reminds me when in pregnancy they told me that nausea were psychological, now they already know that they have a hormonal cause ..
It is that this issue puts me a milk ...
