One of the great dramas after the diagnosis of a child diabetes is usually explaining the child how his life changes from that moment. They are complicated concepts and habits to explain and cause the anguish of parents and minors.Using learning and awareness techniques according to the capacities of minors is usually successful.
For this reason Diabalance, with the support of the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital, through the Innovation Center in ChildrenThis pathology.
Following the story of Eva, the protagonist of the comic for children with diabetes, guidelines and tricks are offered to lead a healthy life living with diabetes, treating food, physical exercise and some special situations associated with diabetes such as hypoglycemia. But the comic for children with diabetes not only addresses the little ones, but also wants to help parents overcome the fears that appear after diagnosis.“This story can be an educational tool that complements the education that takes place in hospitals. In diabetes, education is a fundamental pillar for families to lead a life as normal as possible, said Marina Llobet, nutritionist of the Diabetes Unit of the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital.
With this drawing book, project drivers have wanted to create a reference tool in diabetological education to help children who debut and their closest environment to lead a healthy life easily."Our goal is to provide practical and simple information elaborated and supervised by endocrine, nutritionists and diabetes experts as well as other parents in the identical situation to make the lives of children with diabetes easier," explains José Ramón Pérez, director of Diabalance. In this first edition, a total of 10,000 copies of the comic for children with diabetes that will be distributed between patient associations from Spain have been printed. The book will also be available on the Diabalance website (www.diabalance.com).
