The Association of Boys and Girls with Diabetes de Galicia (Anedia) has presented this Monday in Pontevedra 600 signatures to claim that the labor absences of the only pediatrician specializing in diabetes of the Hospital Complex of Pontevedra (Chop) are covered with another Diabetes specialist doctorIn the pediatric age to avoid the helplessness of children's patients with diabetes.

According to the association, there has been a deep concern in the collective for some time because in the health area of ​​Pontevedra and or Salnés there is only one specialist in children's diabetes, so when it is absent for casualties or vacations, "the squareCover with another doctor with the same specialization. "

The president of Anedia, Ana Pérez, explained that at the moment in which the doctor is not, the Sergas "delays the appointments", refers to the patient "to a nutritionist or in case of urgency to a pediatrician not specialized in diabetes".This means that children do receive attention but not the specialized they need for their pathology.

Given the concern of the parents for this situation, a campaign to collect signatures between the members of the group and its closest people has begun, in which more than 600 signatures were achieved in two weeks, which today have been delivered in the areaof attention to the public of the Provincial Hospital.

The signatures were given accompanied by a brief in which a meeting is requested with the Chop manager, the head of the Pediatrics area and the doctor -specializing doctor of the health area.

Presentation

Ana Pérez has presented the association before the media in the Casa Azul, the multi -purpose building of the Department of Welfare of the City of Pontevedra, and explained that Anedia is a recent constitution entity that was born from the concern of a group of parents of children of children of childrenwith diabetes from the Autonomous Community to achieve specialized care for childhood and adolescence.Currently, in the association there are partners of Pontevedra, Ourense and A Coruña.

Among the anemy objectives are those of claiming medical, specialized and multidisciplinary assistance for all children with diabetes;urge the educational administration to provide all the necessary means for the self -care of diabetes;provide information and adequate diabetoloxic education;or enhance the relationship between relatives and children with diabetes and support family members.

To achieve these objectives, the association began initially working in the health and educational fields.The Association contacted the pediatricians specialized in children's diabetes throughout Galicia and with all the schools in which there is a student with this pathology.They are also doing a campaign to collect information on existing protocols for the attention of children with diabetes in schools.

Within these actions, the signature collection campaign is framed and in the short term their demands will focus on obtainof culture and education.
