Researchers develop a device that adapts to the cell phone and would allow to detect quickly and at an early stage.
A group of researchers from the FEMSA Biotechnology Center of the Technological of Monterrey, in Mexico, in collaboration with scientists from the University of Houston, in the United States, develop a device that adapts to the cell phone and would allow to quickly detect and at one stageEarly diabetes.
"We develop something that is less invasive and above all laptop, economy, that does not generate the demand for a cold chain or a very special care of the samples that are generated," explained Dr. Marco Antonio Rito Palomares, who directed the work, in information disseminated by the Tecnológico de Monterrey.
The device would work from saliva samples in which you could identify whether there are biomarkers that can be correlated with diabetes. The detection would be done through fluorescence that can be read through the camera of a cell phone.
“It is a more robust technology because it is associated with the presence or not of a marker. That will therefore allow me to have information and predict this disease in a more accurate way, ”said Palomares.
Although, it is a generic application platform, that is, when ready it can be used by any patient; The main motivation of researchers was to have a method that could be transported to isolated regions or indigenous communities where traditional methods may have a series of disadvantages.
