The president of the Spanish Diabetes Society (SED), Sonia Gaztambide, has stated that the percentage of people who do not know that she has decreased 10 % in recent years, thanks to the improvement of early diagnosis.For this reason, and with the aim of further reducing the percentage of people who do not know this disease, thirst, together with the Spanish Endocrinology Society (SEEN), the Spanish Pediatric Endocrinology Society (SEEP) and the Group NetworkDiabetes study in Primary Health Care (REDGDPS) have created the Diabetes House.
It is an initiative that seeksParticipatory ", by all levels of society, the integral approach of the disease.
To this coalition, in addition to the promoter entities of the House of Diabetes, the Spanish Society of Internal Medicine (SEMI) belongs;the Spanish Family and Community Medicine Society (SEMFYC);the Spanish Society of Primary Care Physicians (Semergen);the Spanish Society of General and Family Physicians (SEMG);the Spanish Cardiology Society (SEC);Sen-Neurology;Sen-Nefrology;the Spanish Society of Community Pharmacy (SEFAC);the Federation of Spanish Diabetics (Fede);the Spanish Patient Forum;and the Cyberdem Diabetes Research Network of the Carlos III Institute of Health.
All associations, together with the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality, have developed a manifesto in which the ten work areas reflect on which efforts must be focused for an integral approach to this pathology by all the levels ofsociety.
As explained by the president of the SEEP, Luis Castaño, the text highlights the need to ensure actions that promote, in a sustained way, the healthy lifestyle habits from very early ages and, in addition, seek the involvement of the entire society to promote theInformation and knowledge of diabetes for prevention.
Likewise, the ministry and societies have agreed on the importance of raising awareness and promoting early diagnosis in people with high diabetes risk;develop health policies that promote the integral, disciplinary and coordinated approach of disease management;establish an adequate therapeutic education of the patient and facilitate their participation in the management and control of the disease;as well as promoting the access of patients, individually, to the necessary resources for the responsible and rational self -management of pathology and its complications.
In the same way, they have advocated guaranteeing access to new technologies, both medical and information and communication, to improve the control and monitoring of people with diabetes;Effective the continuing quality training of health professionals;Promote and promote research of excellence in diabetes and its clinical application;and boost continued evaluation through indicators."With diabetes it can be lived but it is necessary that patients have an adequate therapeutic education since it is the only way we have for the management of this disease. Therefore, we consider that this initiative can bring to light many people whoThey have diabetes and do not know, "said the president of Fede, Ángel Cabrera.
