Neither the pills, nor insulin injections, the essence of treatment to combat diabetes is education, which teaches us to have a healthy life, said Dr. Eduardo Mena Arana, director of the program “Learning to live with diabetes”of the Rotary Club of Mérida.
Dr. Mena Arana opened yesterday the new course before just over 30 people, who will be taught to live with diabetes, which implies knowing what the disease consists of, how should their management be, the care they must have, the risksto those who are exposed, and how to adopt a healthy and nutritious lifestyle.
In the course endocrinologists, internist, ophthalmologists, psychologists, dentists, graduates in nutrition, podiatrists and sports doctors, who are responsible for teaching the talks.
Yesterday several of the doctors and collaborators who participate in the course met at the Rotary Club of Mérida, located on Pérez Ponce Avenue, to be present at the inauguration of this first diabetes course.
In the presentation, Dr. Mena Arana, who directs the program, stressed that the essence of diabetes treatment is education, because learning the patient can improve their health condition and achieve adequate control of the disease that afflicts it.
They are not the pills, nor the insulin injections that they have so much fear, the essence of treatment is education, he stressed.
He indicated that each course is received between 80 and 100 people, so that the inscriptions are still open for the current one who wants to join.
He pointed out that when surveys are made to people to ask them what they value most, most respond that health, but there are few who do something to take care of it.
Receiving the diagnosis of diabetes, pointed out that it causes anguish, then anger, depression, and are going through different stages, but the most important thing is to overcome them and learn to take care of themselves.
At present, he stressed that diabetes is no longer a elderly disease, as it was before, but more and more cases of young patients are seen.
He said that it is estimated that by 2030 one in 10 Mexicans between 20 and 79 years will have diabetes.
The nutritionist ina Alejandra Beristain Navarrete, rapporteur of the course, explained that as part of the workshop they will beighed, measured, will take the frequency of the waist, age, gender, and according to this, each one will be prepared to each one a basic food planHealthy, and throughout the sessions, an exercise will be made in which they will learn to design their menus at the family level, since people with diabetes do not have to receive a special meal, but that it can adapt to the family environment,It is only a matter of knowing how to do it.
