Parents with serious sick children can already ask for an economic benefit

The Government has approved in the Council of Ministers the Royal Decree that regulates recognition, in all regimes of the Social Security System, an economic benefit for the care of minors affected by cancer or other serious illness.

The biological, adoptive or welcoming parents who reduce their workday will benefit at least 50% for the care of the sick minor in charge and whenever they work both. When both were entitled to the benefit, one of them can only be recognized.

In this way, it is intended to compensate for the loss of income that workers suffer by having to reduce their day - with the consequent decrease in salary - due to the need to take care of the children or children in charge in charge, duringThe hospitalization and continued treatment time of the disease.

The Royal Decree establishes a list of 108 diseases considered serious for the purposes of recognition of the benefit, which may also be updated by the Ministry itself by ministerial order.

can already be requested

The economic benefit will consist of a subsidy, of daily accrual, equivalent to 100% of the regulatory base established for the provision for temporary disability (labor low), derived from professional contingencies. The subsidy will be calculated in proportion to the percentage in which the workday carried out is reduced, which must be at least 50% of its duration.

The requirements for access to the new benefit are the same as for the economic benefit for contributory maternity: being affiliated and registered in some regime of the Social Security system and having covered the minimum price period required.Applications are already available on the Social Security website.

The management and payment will correspond to the mutual accidents at work and occupational diseases or to the managing entity with whom the company has concerted the coverage of professional risks. The benefit will be extinguished when the need for direct, continuous and permanent care of the child ceases or when he turns 18.

Last March, Social Security set up provisional instructions to enable parents with minor children affected by cancer could receive the benefit, because cancer diseases are unworthy in the State General Budget Law for2011, which created the new benefit. This was a temporary solution, while this decree was approved, which allows the benefit to be requested by parents with children suffering from other serious diseases included in the list.

It doesn't stop astonishing me about "cancer and other serious diseases" ...
All diseases are important and should be treated with the same importance ....
Of course, cancer "sells" much more and comes to society in a simple way.

Anyway, they have included type 1 diabetes ...
