The Association of Associate Diabetics Riojans has assured that "32,000 Riojans suffer diabetes even though some 10,000 are unaware of suffering from this disease."Given the increase in cases, Dar is promoting a study to know the risk of diabetes.
The Riojan diabetics have offered these data at a press conference this morning where, one of the doctors of the collective, Fernando Salceda explained that "the purposes of the association are two, on the one hand, the prevention and on the other the training".
To try to carry out the first one, Salceda said they are making relatives of the associates the 'hinndrisk' test that consists in "answering some very simple questions to determine the risk of suffering the disease."
On the other hand, an endocrine of the Bilbao Cruces Hospital, José Antonio Vázquez explained that "risk factors are sedentary lifestyle, obesity or hypertension among others."And he added that "some are modifiable factors, so that, if we educate the population, the number of affected would be reduced considerably."
And, as Vázquez commented, "50 percent of Spanish society is sedentary, which means that it does not exercise except that of everyday life."
For these reasons, and due to the worrying increase in the number of cases, as it has passed in 20 years from 6 to 12 percent of the population, Vázquez has announced that, since the support of the Ministry of Health, "we are going toPerform the test to relatives of our associates and in case they suffer from diabetes, we will derive their head doctors. "
With the realization of the test, explained the endocrine "we will discover that many people have a very high risk of suffering from diabetes in 10 years."
Likewise, and with the intention of improving training, the representative of the Official College of Doctors of La Rioja, Javier Pinilla, has announced that "we are preparing a diabetes update course for primary care doctors and nurses."
