Nuevo Laredo is the national champion in children's diabetes, overcoming the national average by far.
This is the reason why the construction of the Children's Diabetes House began, which aims to detect children to suffer from this chronic disease and improve their lives.
Yesterday morning the first stone of the building that will be located on Emiliano Zapata Street, between juniper and palm tree, was placed in the Nogal Expansion colony.
Without offering figures, Rodolfo Garza, president of the Nuevo Santander Rotary Club, said that the first place in children's diabetes in Mexico has Nuevo Laredo.
At the national level, almost 33 out of 100 thousand people in 19 years or less, suffers from diabetes and the group that is most attacked by this chronic disease, is 15 to 19 years, with just under 17 minors per 100,000inhabitants, according to INEGI data.
In the house of children's diabetes, free exams will be offered to children to know whether or not they suffer from the disease. Those who are diagnosed with diabetes will be sent to the medical institution where they are discharged and those who do not belong to any institution, will be supported by popular insurance.
In a few months it is expected that the first stage of the work is completed, with an investment of a million and a half. The Diabetes House is included in the Municipal Public Works Plan and is expected to be completed this year.
"This work is a very clear goal to combat diabetes here in Nuevo Laredo, because we take the first place of children's diabetes and we will have the opportunity to participate all to combat that evil that can represent a very delicate matter," added Rodolfo Garza.
This idea of installing a special care center for children suffering or are prone to diabetes, emerged from the Nuevo Santander Rotary Club, an organism that cares about the health of each and every one of the minors.
Child diabetes is the second most common chronic condition in childhood.Formerly it was an adult disease but, with the growth of the childhood obesity index associated with a sedentary life and bad eating habits, cases have increased considerably.
To avoid childhood obesity and diabetes, it is necessary for children to enjoy healthy eating as well as physical activities, preventing them from staying a long time in front of television.Experts on the subject assured that they need a diet rich in fibers and poor in sugars.
Diabetes can cause, in the long term and if it is not properly treated, loss of vision, infarction, hypertension, spill, sexual impotence, lung diseases and renal insufficiency.
