Toledo will host this year the III National Diabetes Campus organized by the Board
Lamata presides over the FUDAMDI Board of Trustees in Toledo. The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Fernando Lamata, has presided this week for the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation of Castilla-La Mancha for Diabetes, in whichIt has taken stock of the 2008 activity and the monitoring of the actions planned in 2009.

The Government of Castilla-La Mancha will celebrate this year in Toledo the III Diabetes Campus, nationally, which will last two days and will be dedicated to the prevention and health education of this pathology.

This was one of the agreements adopted this week at the Board of Trustees of the Foundation of Castilla-La Mancha for Diabetes (FUCAMDI), under the Regional Government, and has been chaired by the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Fernando Lamata.

According to an epidemiological study promoted by Fucamdi, 7% of the Castilian-La Mancha population of 30 or more years of age does not know that it suffers from diabetes (hidden diabetes), and known diabetes, that is to say diagnosed, it has a prevalence in the region of 10% in that age group.

The National Diabetes Campus aims to bring the integral treatment of the disease and that attendees can share among them experiences and initiatives in the approach of this chronic disease.Last year more than 380 people participated among representatives from different diabetic associations of Castilla-La Mancha and Spain, relatives of patients and health professionals.

During this event, which will be held at the end of November, the diabetes investigation awards granted every year by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha, through Fucamdi, will be awarded.

In the Board of Trustees, health education activities and their family to prevent complications associated with diabetes and achieve better disease control;courses and seminars for health professionals and students of health sciences;Support for diabetic associations in the region and advice to educational centers.

This Foundation, chaired by the president of Castilla-La Mancha, José María Barreda, will continue this year with his legal advisory service and his collaboration, with the Regional University, for the operation at the Faculty of Medicine of Albacete of one of the fewGenetic laboratories that exist in the country for the detection of mody type diabetes, which represents approximately 5% of the total cases of diabetes and that for detection require a genetic study by a laboratory.Last year tests were carried out to 97 members of 46 families.

Various measures

In his speech, the counselor has highlighted the commitment of the president of Castilla-La Mancha, José María Barreda, to improve the quality of life of people with chronic diseases and recalled measures such as free podological care for diabetic patients, being the regionThe first autonomous community that does so, or the distribution of lancetas also at no cost for people with diabetes.

These measures are provided in the Comprehensive Diabetes Plan of Castilla-La Mancha 2007-2010 designed by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in the areas of health education, prevention and promotion of health, early diagnosis, comprehensive care and research.

Likewise, the improvement of the information systems of primary care consultations has been undertaken to reinforce the early detection of the disease and the role of health professionals of this care level to educate the population in healthy lifestylethat avoid obesity and sedentary lifestyle, thatThey are the most common causes for the appearance of type II diabetes.

In this sense, the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has been carried out since 2005 for the strategy for nutrition, physical activity and obesity prevention, in order to promote health habits among the population and a varied and balanced food, especiallyat the earliest ages.
