Good afternoon,
I am a little baffled because two doctors gave me two different diagnoses.
I am a woman, 44 years old, BMI of 28. My father is type II diabetic for 40 years (he is currently 84).It controls with insulin and diet and is fine.Almost without complications. He is my only relative with diabetes, no uncle, grandfather, brother, cousin, etc. has had diabetes.Only my father.I comment this because I feel that when I tell this to a doctor no longer reads the studies, but assumes that I have diabetes.
A nutritionist told me several tests because apparently I could have some thyroid problem, as I cannot lose weight yet, diet and exercise (3 hours a week of intense exercise). He also told me the glucose tests.
The results were:
Fasting glucose 88 (I have often measured the fasting glucose and is always around 70-80)
Glucose tolerance (75g):
Fasting: 88
30 min: 142
60 min: 237
120 min: 164
180 min: 45 This test is abnormal, however times and peak do not match the rules I have read to determine diabetes. At 3 hours the glucose went down a lot and I felt very bad.
Glycosylated hemoglobin: 5%
One of the doctors told me that I am definitely diabetic and Pioglitazona prescribed me.
The other tells me that diabetes cannot be confirmed yet and indicated diet and exercise.
Can you guide me?I get the impression that not many doctors are familiar with incipient diabetes or prediabetes.
Thank you so much

Well, our opinion will be just that: an opinion.
However, and in view of the figures, I do not think you have diabetes.A fasting values are totally normal, as well as glycosylated hemoglobin.
Those of the glucose test, I would not know how to tell you, but in principle the doctor who prefers to wait seems more successful.
If you doubt, consult another without telling the background.

Diagnostic criteria of diabetes, glucose intolerance (ITG) and altered basal blood glucose (GBA):
Plasma glycemia in fasting glycemia at 2 hours
Normal less than 100mg/dl less than 140 mg/dl
ITG --------------------------------------------------------- 140-199 mg/dl
GBA between 100 and 126 mg/dl -----------------------------------------------------------------
Greater diabetes 126 mg/dl greater than 200 mg/dl
It seems that because of the figures you aim, you could be in the glucose intolerance stadium ... Treatable with diet and exercise.
What is usually taken into account is fast plasma glycemia (failing capillary glycemia), but with a first -degree history of diabetes and an "rare" ITG should intensify you control and look for other markers (insulin resistance, countbeta cells ....)
My opinion: Do you like a doctor or ask you to refer you to a specialist (endocrine or at least internal medicine)

Thank you very much for your answers.
I will definitely go see another doctor.
I have not taken the pioglitazone because I am precisely trying to lose weight.
The doctors I already consulted are both.I would like to find a doctor who knows more about cases like mine.
Unfortunately, many doctors attend to all patients exactly the same, not as unique and individual cases.
That is why I am very interested in the opinion of people like those on this site.
And I know that many people who are not doctors have more information about professionals themselves.
The other test that told me that I forgot to include, is basal fasting insulin: 6%

Hi Maria!
With your figures you are in time to prevent it if you do diet and exercise, because now you are shortly to be.problem and so with your analysis and all discarded to be able to remedy on time. And change the doctor if you can because these are not clarified.
I wish you good luck !!!

I do not know, the glycosada is usually the maximum of 5.6%, if you are 5 you can be at the limit, but according to the fasting data of 88 it is perfect, if you are diabetic, then everyone could be diabetic.
