The College of Pharmacists of Valencia and the Valencian Association of Diabetes have launched a campaign to inform about diabetes, a disease that already affects 14 percent of the adult population of the Community, although only half knows that it suffers from thispathology.Likewise, these two groups indicated that "there are not enough professionals" to serve the 700,000 Valencian diabetics and claimed greater education since children about this disease.

The ´Diabetes campaign, 5 key points to prevent them complications' - which was presented at a press conference by the president of the College of Pharmacists, Javier Climent, and the president of the Valencian Association of Diabetes, María del Toro - aims to informPeople who suffer from this disease to prevent pathologies such as diabetic foot, dialysis or cardiovascular problems, among others.

"Sugar makes us forget other aspects such as cardiovascular problems or the necessary control of hypertension, which also cause many deaths," said Javier Climent, who added that "with the prevention of these other aspects, death can be reduced quite a lot".

To "reduce this mortality", the information is "a very necessary aspect", and in this sense, the information campaign that has been carried out jointly will be based on cards that will be distributed in all the pharmacy offices and that will serveto raise awareness among the importance of compliance with glucose, tension, cholesterol, background, blood pressure, micro albuminuria controls and feet exploration.

These cards will be distributed in the 1,200 pharmacies in the province of Valencia, to "get as many people as possible, since the population believes to know what this disease is, but they do not know many aspects of it such as symptomatology, medicationexisting oral or the best recommendations among other aspects, "said the president of the College of Pharmacists.

For its part, María del Toro explained that diabetes already affects 14 percent of the Valencian population, a "scandalous" percentage, since "despite there is a diabetes plan, the measures that were established are still breaking andMany professionals are missing to attend to this percentage. "

If the percentage of child population affected by this pathology is added to this 14 percent, the 700,000 Valencians are reached, "of which it is estimated that 350,000 are unaware that they are diabetic", so, according to the bull, "the informationwhich is intended to disseminate with this campaign is very important. "

"Child education"

In addition to "missing professionals", the president of the Valencian association said that "another serious problem is the lack of education that children affected receive, since everything remains in the hands of families.""Minors should receive information about diabetes in schools, but it is argued that there is no money to believe in them the figure of the educator, they need to go to health centers where they are talked about this disease,"He assured the bull.

Finally, Javier Climent said that "it is true that there are still many shortcomings in all these aspects but the important thing is to avoid discouragement in the chronic patient, a discouragement that occurs when not receiving enough information and help from public health systems".

On the other hand, the College has launched other activities such as the Training Course to the Pharmacist, which ended yesterday, to encourage ups to date on knowledge related to disease, food, medicines with adverse effects, administration devicesof insulin and the importance of physical exercise.

The same line includes the agreement signed withThe Valencian Society of Family and Community Medicine to control hypertension in people with diabetes, since only 15 percent of these patients with hypertension have it well controlled.

We carry 4 locations visited (Paterna, Burjassot, Benetusser, Segorbe) and more than 1000 glycemia carried out, in total.

We highlight Segorbe with an average of glycemia of 104, and an age range above 60. It shows that it is a town used to physical work in the garden and accustomed to walking to all places.

Links to the news:

On the other side, we find Benetusser and its average of 127, and an age range similar to Segorbe.Very little physical activity, and no pajolera idea of what diabetes is.

Of what we have seen so far, I am scared of the unconsciousness of society, the absolute lack of information and what is worse, the misinformation that occurs, sometimes, from the health centers.

Examples:
- The archifamous phrase of: "I have a little sugar but I am not diabetic" : Evil: you do the blood glucose and 180 :?

- A case of psychiatric, a man put insulin but had no diabetes:-/ It was impossible to get anything else: shock:

- The huge number of people who are going with pills over 10-15 years and controls that do not fall from 150 ever or almost ever.

- "Can the sugar be measured even if you are not fasting?"of the economic managers of the councils: Evil :.

- 99% of people believe they can't eat melon because "as it is very sweet, sugar will rise a lot." And what is worse "The doctor has told me that I want to eat but melon, no" : shock:

- We have had 4 cases of glycemias greater than 350 :( in 2 cases were not diabetic ...

- People, in general, love to become glycemias (being free ...) they dot a little saying that if it hurts, that if such ... but close their finger with a neglect ...

Anyway, until after summer we will not resume the diabetic tour.I will continue to put perlitas that we find ourselves.

Well, I return to the diary of this program we are doing.

In this month of October, we have been in the towns of Manises, Mislata, Sagunto and Puerto Sagunto.

The concrete results still do not have them, but the average number of glycemia is similar to previous locations: about 300 glycemia in 3 hours ... Our xical nurses are already expert in piercing fingers: D

In Sagunto and Puerto Sagunto we established the high blood glucose record: 477 and 435, in none of the 2 cases they had diagnosed diabetes :?And they passed the doctor…: Shock:

Very good glycemia in Mislata, where they are doing a great job with the elderly (exercises, social club, pool, cultural and recreational activities ...)

The melon, its sweet taste and the "increased blood glucose" is on its way to becoming a classic.

Another classic is that of having good diabetes ... that is not click 8) ... Anyway.

It also scares me the number of people who reuse the needles, it is absolutely irrational ... as they are for oneself ... I am sad to spend so much ...: Evil:-/

I leave for the end, an anecdote ... that I sincerely do not know how to take it:
It is not lived in the first person, but the main person enjoys my trust (surely will forgive me if I count this anecdote)
It turns out that in the course of a meal with a nursing responsible for a town, the protagonist prepared to put the Lantus, in its solo modality.
The alarmed nurse told her that why it was done before eating: shock:
My partner told him that nothing happened, that the Lantus touched him at that time.
The nurse, without making her case, noticed the ball and released:
"Ahhhh now I understand you, getting the rapid of the Lantus ...": (((

The protagonist nurse is the head of nurses and with a professional years ... This is how we are doing.

Well in case someone is interested, and for fulfilling what was promised (lest they accuse me of a politician: d) I publish some global results of the 3DTD program, 3 days with your diabetes:

- 11 localities visited: Sagunto, Puerto Sagunto, Manises, Mislata, Segorbe, Benetusser, Burjassot, Paterna, Picanya, Museros and Moncada-

- 1658 glycemias performed

- 1078 Complete profiles: Glycemias+Test Findrisk

- 72% have been women

- 83% were over 45 years old
- 47.7% more than 64 years

- 55% had a body mass index below 25

- 31% of participants have a waist perimeter greater than 102

- 72% say they do at least 30 minutes of daily exercise

- 80% say they eat vegetables and fruits every day

- 37% take medication for hypertension

- 39% of participants have a family history of diabetes

Glycemia results
- 16% of participants have given figures greater than 140 glycemia ( This data "confirms" the prevalence data of diabetes in the com.val. of 14%)

- 8% have given glycemia figures between 126 and 139

- We have found 19 non -diabetic people with glycemias greater than 200, that is, suspected of diabetes.

- The "record" was 475: shock: ... without diagnosing

- 5.75% of the participants were diagnosed with diabetes
Your figures are scandalous:
23% had higher figures 200
15% was below 126
70% exceeded 140

It must be said that glycemia were made between 10 and 13 hours (that is) with almost everyone had breakfast and/or lunch, therefore, diabetic figures were logically triggered, even so they are not justified so highamount of 200.

Among January, February and March we will be in all the neighborhoods of Valencia City, I will tell you.

I have forgotten to comment, that glycemia were made randomly.
Logically, in the markets between 10 and 13 hours you only find housewives, retirees and idle officials :))

Very curious data:
- The more "rural" the best glycemia localities
- The localities very close to the capital have given very high average figures.
