My 14 -month -old son has just debuted with diabetes - basic information
12/10/2013 12:33 p.m.
Good afternoon, my name is Germán, and as I suppose that as all you have spent the first day to find out about the news, I am totally sunk and desperate, my son Iker has just left the ICU after five days, this time I will simply ask you for some basic information.Iker is 14 months old, there are bolis for those ages, or instead you have to supply insulin in syringes, there is some glucometer brand better than others. Thanks in advance

At that ages, half -unit syringes are the most precise and are the finest. The glucometers will give them to you in the health center, depending on the strips they have. The precision is in all very similar.
It is very important to study how insulin and hydrates affect it, to adjust insulin doses, which are increasing with growing.
Courage!, That there are better treatments and advances are faster.

Hi Germán, I have some friends with a girl who debuted at 10 months a couple of years ago.For children as younger, a unit that gives you a pencil such as Humalog can be a lot, they have to be playing with more precise syringes to extract parts of the pencil unit, mix with serum, etc.Especially in the beginnings coordinated with the endocrine and learn to know how any change in routines affects. Courage, that in a few months we have Iker running and you learning day by day, :-)

I think so small is the syringe better, and for me, they are less painful than the bolis (even now when I need use syringes before bolis)
I don't know where you are, but being so small the best would be insulin bomb. They get very small and it is what can give you the most precision.
Much encouragement !!!The principles are always hard, but things are improving a lot over time

Welcome to the @germanfdez forum. We understand perfectly because of what you are going through, we are also able to tell you that with a little time and preparation the perspective that you are going to have in the future will be very different from what you have today, so to start, much encouragement!!!Where are you from?A good diabetological preparation is important.Have you given you any course? However, there is a lot of information in the forum, if you go through the thread of parents, find experiences that will surely help you.I also think that half -unit syringes will come better, the following would be the insulin bomb that for a small child is ideal, but it already depends on the specialist that takes you whether or not to prescribe it.Even so, you can also see the experiences about them in the section of bombs and new technologies ... a hug for you and a kiss for Iker. Here we are for what you need.

I am very sorry what happened to your child.Diabetes is a misfortune. It is no nonsense, it is not anything, it is huge shit. But I also tell you that we are many who live with this and know how to handle it (more or less). We are many who, despite diabetes, can be happy and make a normalized life.Learn everything you can, be alert without your child see you paranoid or worried and you will have no problem.Much encouragement.

Hello, a lot of encouragement. I have a 3 -year -old diabetic child who debuted one.At first it was a very large stick. There is nothing to tell you that I can comfort you and you can't stop asking a thousand times why, but I would like to tell you that after a year of experience things are different. My child eats practically everything, although heavy, but really that with practice things are being easier. I use insulin syringes D 0.3 ml, which are the ones that measure the half units. If you need help you doubt contact me. Greetings.
