The Pharmaceutical Company Roche has distinguished with the 'Roche Acu-Consult Award' to the initiative 'My first material: Color, cut and talk', for its innovation and pedagogical capacity that will serve as an educational tool for children with diabetes between 4 and6 years.
This initiative, which seeks to promote communication between nurses and the little ones so that the latter begin to know their illness, has been developed by the nurse and educator in diabetes, Miquel Flores, of the Balàfia de Lleida Primary Care Center.
According to its inventor, "it is a set of ten chips to color and trim, which contains drawings related to basic aspects of diabetes such as food, exercise or medication, necessary for good control."
In this line, he adds, "it is intended that these chips be a tool that facilitates the initial approach to diabetological education at an early age and from the moment of diagnosis; until now only materials for older children had been developed."
Flores proposes to use the aforementioned chips to carry out activities such as commenting with the child every food and their relationship with blood glucose, teach him what to take when he has hypoglycemia or select material for self -control and insulin administration, for example."This is a fundamental tool because with it you can work with the family without forgetting the child," says the expert.
