An Israeli company is developing insulin pills for diabetics

Israeli pharmaceuticals Oramed hopes to deliver an insulin pill for diabetics in 2016.

“Oral insulin does not exist today in the world, but we are very advanced to enter the market. We are about to start the tests of phase 2 in the United States, which is great news, ”said Ero Kidron, CEO of Oramed.

The company has already completed this phase in South Africa in May 2010 but the approval of the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is the main objective on the planet of pharmacists. To obtain it, Oramed hopes to start the tests in America at the beginning of next year and, if it succeeds, the evaluations of phase 3 a year later.

Why has no one invented insulin pills so far?Kidron replied: “First, insulin is a peptide, which is a small protein, and when you swallow it, it degrades by body enclosures.Second, the size of insulin does not pass through the intestinal wall, and therefore does not reach body circulation. You have to think about insulin as a tennis ball and the wall as a network. The ball cannot cross it. ”

However, after 25 years of research, a group of scientists from the Hadssah Medical Center in Jerusalem found a way to overcome these obstacles.Among the scientists was Dr. Miriam Kidron, mother of anythingv and niece granddaughter of Rabbi Abraham Isaac Kook, the first great Palestinian Askenazi rabbi. She told her son about the progress of the group and together, in 2006, they founded Oramed.
