A total of 25 young Castilian-La Manchas suffering from diabetes mellitus, and aged between 14 and 21 years, they can benefit from the summer camp for young people with this disease that will be held from July 18 to 29 and that has been summonedby the Sociosanitary Foundation of Castilla-La Mancha, an agency dependent on the regional government.
The objective of this camp exclusively intended for boys and girls suffering from diabetes is none other than to foster coexistence between them, while increasing their quality of life through new strategies that allow them to face daily the numerous situations that areIt presents due to its illness, as reported by the Board in a press release.
For this reason, during the camp an educational intervention is carried out that allows these young peoplegreater autonomy in the treatment of your diabetes.
In this way, sharing the experiences of the children participating in the camp is considered essential to learn to prevent special situations;What will be complemented with specific education taught by professionals and monitors who will teach to modify insulin doses depending on exercise, knowing and understanding diabetes from the biological point of view, as well as identifying all the factors involved in insulin treatment, among other aspects.
In short, with this camp that will take place at the "Avenjúc" Rural Hotel, located in the Albacete town of Alcalá del Júcar, the Sociosanitary Foundation wants to favor the knowledge of this disease by the affected young people, as well as help them to handleProperly this ailment in any situation, to prevent and avoid critical circumstances or, if not possible, help its resolution.
In the camp, although made with an eminently playful orientation as evidencewhich is done before each meal and two hours after it.
With regard to diabetological education, every afternoon eminently practical talks will be taught, where the fundamental objective will be the correction of errors in the usual treatment and the deepening of the knowledge of self -control.
In addition, before bed the students will participate in a joint "clinical session" between directors and managers of each group and every night guards will be held for the determination of glycemia, in order to control the appearance of incidents.
A camp for professionals
However, this camp is not thought exclusively for young people suffering from this disease, but professionals dedicated to the care of diabetic children and patients, as well as practices health personnel are also called to participate in this activity.
To do this, the Sociosanitary Foundation of Castilla-La Mancha calls, jointly with the places for the boys, three places for field monitors in practices that suffer from this disease.
In the same vein, three other places for health personnel are also convened, specifically for a doctor and two nursing professionals who develop their work in the SESCAM centers and that are preferentially dedicated to patient careDiabetics
