On March 19, the Southern Youth Diabetes Foundation of the Florida will organize a walk for the Cure of Diabetes of 2011.
That will be a magnificent opportunity for our community in southern Florida to demonstrate our solidarity with all people and families affected by diabetes.Together, we can help propagate information and warnings about this ailment, its prevention and how to control its effects.
This noble organization is a world leader in research for the cure of type 1 diabetes, immune system disease that suddenly affects children and adults and lasts a lifetime. It is estimated that about three million people in the United States can suffer from type 1 diabetes-which is the insulin-dependent type-, which represents that approximately 80 people per day are diagnosed. This is unacceptable. Our children should be free of living carrying the constant concern of watching their sugar levels.
The Mission of the Research Foundation for Youth Diabetes has been to find a cure for type 1 diabetes through research support. This institution is also committed to working tirelessly to develop new and better treatments to improve the lives of patients diagnosed with this evil and keep them as healthy as possible.
Many adults know the difficulties and problems of trying to lead an active normal life while suffering from diabetes. When a child has diabetes, it affects not only the child but also his family and friends. Therefore, they are forced to grow prematurely. The things that are typical of childhood are often denied to children suffering from type 1 diabetes.
Prevention and alert is the key.The disease control centers estimate that 7 million people in the United States suffer diabetes, but have not been diagnosed. Most of these people, particularly children, not being diagnosed are more susceptible to serious risks in their health and severe complications that this ailment entails.
The 2011 Diabetes Cure Walker Sponsored by the Southern Florida Youth Research Foundation, will not only help increase alert about this evil, but will contribute to raising funds to investigate and help find better treatmentsAnd hopefully, a cure.
I invite you to participate supporting this noble cause.
