What is glycosylated hemoglobin (HBA1C)?

When your glycemia are checked at home, you can know how your glucose level is at that time, but this does not allow you to know how your control has been the rest of the time.

Glycosylated hemoglobin (HB A1C) is a test that allows you to know the average blood glucose levels more rightly, during the last 3 to 4 months.

This happens because sugar is "sticky" therefore glucose adheres to the organism's proteins, including hemoglobin.

Hemoglobin is responsible for transporting oxygen through blood and traveling through the bloodstream for approximately 6 months, collecting the glucose that adheres to it.

If there is excess blood sugar during that time, hemoglobin will contain more glucose.

In a person without diabetes around 5 to 7% of hemoglobin is glycosiladof blood glucose during that time (3 to 4 months). The following table will indicate the average of your glycemias according to the result of your glycosylated hemoglobin.

Glycosylated hemoglobin...Prom of glycemia..Qualification

5-6 %.................80-120 mg/dl..........Excellent

6-7 %.................120-150 mg/dl.........Very good

7-8 %.................150-180 mg/dl.........Well

8-9 %.................180-210 mg/dl.........Regular

9-10 %................210-240 mg/dl.........Problematic

10-11 %...............240-270 mg/dl.........Bad

11-12 %...............270-300 mg/dl.........Very bad

Final comments

1- It is recommended that people with type 1 diabetes (insulin-dependent) take this test every 3 months, while people with type 2 diabetes (which do not require insulin) can check their glycosylated hemoglobin twice per year.

2- The glycosylated hemoglobin test is very important, however it cannot replace the monitoring of glycemia, since it cannot measure its daily control and therefore does not allow it to adjust its insulin doses and food intake in the dayday.

3- Glycosylated hemoglobin levels must be kept at levels as close to normal (5 to 7%) as possible, to avoid problems caused by poorly controlled diabetes.

4- This test must be performed in a laboratory and does not require that you are fasting.

Chuy, fasting are the diagnostic analytics. But this hemoglobin only serves to know how diabetes is controlled.

To me too, they take the opportunity to make the rigor analytics and the hem at the same time, and I always go fasting and when I enter the room and I see so many people in front of me I am always uneasy in case I give me a hiccup. If a hypo noticed me before the analyzes, what would you do?Eat and return another day (but that gives me a lot of laziness to lose another morning at work, well 1 h), or drink a little juice and stay to make the analytics. From what you tell Hemo would not affect him, but normal analytics would affect a little juice?

They have told me (because it has happened to me more than once, which does not affect, only the glycemia in fasting would be altered (which really does not matter) and if they have asked you for cortisol, that there you would have to go another dayBecause although they send you to be at rest, something is usually altered by hypoglycemia and is not reliable.
For everything else, cholesterol, triglyceride, cell count ... is indifferent

They told me the same as Gala.If it is the complete that if I go on an empty stomach, and I feel hypoglycemia, I tell an auxiliary ... I do not like to strain ... but neither do it losing hours of the work and I think it is a more than justified cause.

What in fact is to take a sugar over and then tell who made the extraction so that they had knowledge and already is.So they told me to do it and they didn't give him any importance either

As for cortisol, it is a stress hormone, that means that since glucose has too much empathy ...
Unfortunately we all know what that means the cortisol measure has the same value as glycemia
Does something mean that in a semiannual analysis we get fasting glycemia in 75 and in the next 140?
Well the cortisol the same

Well, when I have been made cortisol, having hypoglycemia, because it happened to me, the cortisol (natural corticosteroid of the body) has shot me precisely because it is a hormone that responds to stress and it is seized, it seems little stress for youThe body a hypoglycemia ???Well, thanks to this we are still here.
There was a time that I had to take corticosteroids and therefore the adrenals were canceled (if you already give it to the body, so that it will manufacture it) because well when it had hypoglycemia (you will say if the corticosteroids go up, yes of course they go upBut the doses of insulin are also uploaded) they gave me hypoglycemia of glucagon no, the following, you tell those of the samur that I thought I was going, and all on account of the cortisol, because when there is no cortisol, the body does not respondAnd the glucagon does not work very well either, let's see me in the other neighborhood !!

Exact gala
To me the worries of the work have come up to 200 starting from 120 without food in my body ...
It hurts that the mechanism is not fast enough to get us out of hypoglycemia, we could say that cortisol has empathy but takes it easy

Go, what you learn here :) In 10 years of diabetics I had never heard of the cortisol or told me anything in the analysis, but for what you say now I explain some peaks that I have had at work.I also had results recently and I am in 8.3 :( I thought that this time I would be at least 7.9 because I have not had large peaks or rebounds, but because of the table that Fer puts, I see that many peaks are not necessary to have those thoseNumbers :( I really admire those who are in 6 or so = D>

What do cortisol do?Do you have any personal trick to lower it?In the last analysis it always makes me very high (the last time was in the upper limit of normal and other times exceeded the range) .... I do not feel stressed in general, although of course work, responsibilities and allThe concerns at some point are felt ...

I would only add to the great information of Fer, that hemoglobin can throw good values but are "falsified", having very low glycemias makes the hemoglobin level fall, in principle the % of hemoglobin will come out as good or very good, butOur daily control has really been to have 3-4 hypos or even more, a week has not been so good.
