Type 1 diabetes and how flu affects them

A mother of a teenager with diabetes, this interesting issue transferred me.

My 15 -year -old son has just passed flu A, who was diagnosed in the emergency department of the La Fe Valencia University Hospital. It has evolved normally not presenting complications.
I am a doctor and I would like to make an observation that I found very interesting and that I will try to describe in a simple way.
Usually my child in a fever disease needs greater insulin requirements to avoid hyperglycemia that are maintained throughout the febrile period.
Throughout the 8 years after its diabetic debut, the appearance of fever has produced a high increase in glycemia, except on a single occasion, two weeks ago when the flu A. passed it is very curious that temperatures of 38 and 39ºThey have not altered their glycemia in the least, which was completely normal. The days that had no appetite, apart from ingesting liquids, passed them only with the corresponding dose of basal insulin (Lantus), which did not have to increase it either.
I would like to know if this circumstance has attended some other patient with type 1 diabetes, because if it has occurred in a large majority, it would be a finding of enormous importance for research; The virus could be used in some diabetes treatment. Therefore, it is important to answer the following questions, only if you have type 1 diabetes and the flu has passed (in the case of young children their parents can answer):
1.-What age are you old?
2.-What year did you have your diabetic debut?
3.-Have you tested the hospital for flu A?
4.-Have you diagnosed that it was flu?
5.-Did you have a fever of more than 38?
6.-Did blood glucose during the febrile period have elevated as on other occasions?
7.-Did you use the same dose of insulin you usually use, or did you increase it?

It is not difficult to answer, if this fact has attended other children with type 1 diabetes, we have the obligation to spread it.Small observations have resulted in great discoveries, it is enough to remember Fleming with penicillin.

Thank you so much.

1.- 11
2,- 2003
3,- no
4,- No. Diagnosis: Viral process. No flu process is ruled out.
5,- 38.3º the maximum
4,- Not significantly. The increase in glycems is mainly due to inactivity.
5,- The amount of insulin per for its little activity was increased ... but blood glucose lowered it perfectly. We do not notice insulin resistance.
