Hello everyone!

Detecting type 1 diabetes could avoid severe complications, such as diabetic ketoacidosis, which especially affects children and can make the control of the disease throughout life.In addition, scientific advances, such as new immunomodulating treatments, could help prevent, delay or even cure this disease.

Countries such as Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States have already begun to develop population screening programs, which means that the health of the population is being evaluated to detect diabetes before the symptoms appear.

In Spain, with more than 150,000 people diagnosed, these initiatives are being evaluated to decide when and how to implement them nationwide.

As Juan Francisco Perán, representative of the Spanish Diabetes Federation, explained, living with type 1 diabetes is a constant challenge, since it requires a daily management of insulin, food and medical controls.

An early detection program would not only improve the quality of life, but also allow people to learn to manage the disease before symptoms are manifested.

Knowledge about the initial stages of type 1 diabetes opens new opportunities to address the disease with innovation, either through therapies that modify its course or technological solutions for their control. These advances offer hope for the future of those who live with this condition.

One more step towards a better quality of life for everyone!

All the best.
