During the previous 5K event aimed by diabetes that took place today November 16, Ana del Valle, type 1 diabetes patient and runner, tells us her testimony and how she handles diabetes while practicing this sport.
This whole diabetes process indicates that for her it has been a challenge in the changes that she must present in her lifestyle and begin to understand a little more about this condition, since she did not know what it was until her diagnosis.
"It has been very complicated, it has been diagnosed for more than 20 years and it is a very large adjustment not only for the diagnosed person but for family, friends and for the people you work with, it was a challenge because I did not know what diabetes was"Ana said.

Diabetes was not an impediment to running
When Ana started on the issue of sport, short distances began to run and for short periods to control her glucose, as a broker I am looking for an alternative to be able to control it without having to stop all the time and emphasfull with the condition.
"When I started running, I needed to integrate something else into my life, when I start training for a marathon I realize that I have to handle diabetes in a different way and start using the glucose sensor, the sensor is connected to theinsulin bag and lets me know as soon as I have the sugar constantly, "Ana explained.
How do you prepare for races?
Ana indicates that it is prepared weeks before, even months in the food, to know what to consume before a race and these do not influence an uncontrolled increase in sugar in your body.
"Nutrition definitely brings a lot, what I do is practice what I am going to be eating those days before, also to know how my body reacts to those meals, to ensure that my levels are maintained, it is that practical, hydrate and mentally beingaware of what the body ingests, "Ana added.
The patient calls for preparing and asking everything about this condition, since this is not just about food but about mental and emotional health, so it is very important to educate.
"Before this was like a taboo, what was the diabetes was not spoken, now not. My message is to take what you want, but, obviously, know your body, know what you are eating, how you are feeding and howYour sugar levels are affected around you, everything can be, you just have to look for adjustments and educate 100 percent, "Ana concluded.
