Diabetes detection test

Today I have been in the endocrine and has told me about a blood analysis that can be done to the children to see what options there are diabetes and if it were to treat it with a medically to delay the appearance of diabetes about 3 years(Prolonging the pancreas) does anyone know anything?
I have heard something, but it shouldn't be very reliable.And if it comes positive it will be to be distressed early.I would not do it., because three more years of anguish, for what?
