Hopeful news for those who live with type 2 diabetes: a recent clinical trial suggests that a combination of calorie and medications reduction can lead to the remission of the disease.Published in the prestigious magazine The BMJ, the study highlights the positive impact of changes in lifestyle and the use of Dapagliflozine medication.
The essay, conducted in China with more than 300 people, showed that 44% of the participants who combined a low -calorie diet with dapagliflozine achieved a remission of type 2 diabetes. This compares with 28% in those who only diddiet.
Dapagliflozine is a medication of the SGLT-2 inhibitors group, which helps reduce blood sugar by eliminating excess glucose through urine.According to researchers, this treatment combined with a moderate reduction in calories and physical activity can be an effective and accessible strategy for many people.
All study participants were asked:
- Reduce between 500 and 750 calories daily.
- Stay physically active: at least 150 minutes of fast walk a week or more than 10,000 daily steps.
Although not all people with type 2 diabetes can achieve remission, this study opens a door to hope.A combination of healthy habits and proper use of medicines under medical supervision can significantly improve the quality of life and reduce complications associated with diabetes. The remission was defined as maintaining normal blood sugar levels for at least two months without the need for medications. In addition, participants who took Dapagliflozina lost more weight and showed significant improvements in blood pressure, cholesterol and insulin resistance.
This approach reinforces the importance of caring for food and staying active as fundamental pillars to improve health in people with type 2 diabetes.
