🏫 Imagine this: your child has diabetes and the school begins ...

They have recently diagnosed him.He is 7 years old.He is learning to click, to count rations, to recognize a hiccup ... but now something new begins: the school.

You are nervous. Will your teachers know if the sugar goes down? Will anyone understand why that device takes out to measure yourself or why do you have to eat in half a class? Will other children ask questions? Will they leave it out for being "the different"?

Then you wonder something very simple, but very powerful:

👉 Why does no one teach about diabetes in school?

Why not talk about it naturally, how is it done with other issues?A small talk about what diabetes is, what it means to live with it, how to act if a partner gives a hypo ... Nothing medical, only basic information, so that no one feels alone, nor weird, nor invisible.

But of course, doubts also arise ...

💭 What if that overwhelms children?

💭 What if other parents think that they are talking about "diseases" too soon?

💭 What if they say: "Ok, but then let's talk about asthma, epilepsy, celiacy ..."?

And here some questions that arise:

  • Do you think it should talk about diabetes in the choles? What course? How?
  • Have you had to explain diabetes in your child's school, or in your own work as a teacher? How was it?
  • Do you think it can do rather than bad, or is it not worth it?

What we share here can help another child (and her family) feel only tomorrow in class.

What is your opinion?

I think there should be, from childhood, and of course, appropriate to its age at every moment, a subject of Civil Protection and Emergencies, which encompasses all these issues and many more ... in other countries there is, but we do not copy that (nor the decrease in ratio and others ...)
