A reality that can no longer be ignored.

Tomorrow is celebrated at the Álvaro Cunqueiro Hospital in Vigo La JornadaDiabetes challenges, organized by Anedia, and one of the voices that has resonated the most in the previous days is that of Dr. María José Picón, endocrinologist and vice president of the Spanish Diabetes Society.

And what he said does not leave anyone indifferent:"There has been bias in the management of diabetes in women."

💬And what does that mean for women, daughters, mothers, friends or couples with diabetes? It means that for years, essential aspects of treatment, diabetological education or emotional accompaniment have ignored their own and unique characteristics of women. And sohas left us uninformed, unattended or aloneIn key stages such as adolescence, pregnancy, menopause or even everyday life with menstruation.

Dr. Picón makes it clear:

  • Menopause is not explained well.
  • Many women do not feel heard.
  • The gender perspective has shone by its absence in many treatments.

That is why today we want to ask you:

🟡 Have you felt unattended or little informed by your medical team in key moments of your life?

🟡 Do you think your gender has influenced the type of education or treatment you have received?

🟡 How was your experience with diabetes during adolescence, pregnancy or menopause?

🫶 In this forum we firmly believe in the power to share experiences, in the strength of supporting us among the same and inThe importance of talking about everything, also what has sometimes been silenced.

👩‍⚕️Diabetes also has a woman's face. And each one deserves to be seen, heard and cared for.
