A recent study has made me reflect a lot about the importance of maintaining good blood glucose levels, something that, honestly, is not always easy ...
A group of researchers from Valencia (Incliva, Doctor Peset, Fisabio and the University of Valencia) has shown that bad glycemic control in people with type 2 diabetes increases considerably the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
In the study they compared people with good and bad control of their diabetes, and discovered that those who had bad control had alterations in mitochondrial function (come on, the energy "engine" of our cells), in addition to more inflammation and worse vascular indicators. All this translates into greater risk of diseases such as ischemic heart disease, which is no small matter.
I do not say it to scare, but to remember - also myself - that it is not only numbers in the glucometer, but something deeper: our cells, our blood vessels, our heart ... everything is affected.
📚 The study has been published in Redox Biology and you can look for it if you want to read it in more detail.
Has anyone else read about this study?Does it affect you like me?What do you do to maintain control without obsessing?
A huge hug to all.
