As a person with type 1 diabetes for years, reading news like this always removes me inside.Today I have seen an article that I found incredible and wanted to share it with you to comment.
In Sweden, a patient with type 1 diabetes of more than 30 years has received a beta cell transplantation of insulin producers ... but not any cell! These are genetically modified donor cells so that the immune system does not attack them. The most impressive: he did not have to take immunosuppressants to work.
These cells were treated with CRISPR to "erase" the genes that activate rejection, and they were also added a protein that basically tells our defenses "do not eat me."The result: for 12 weeks those cells produced insulin, helped control glucose and there was no inflammation.
The team itself acknowledges that they only used 7% of the dose that would be considered “healing”, but still worked without immunosuppressive medication.Imagine such a treatment, without having to click insulin and without having to live with the side effects of such aggressive drugs, I think almost science fiction seems to me.
Of course, it is still a very small essay, with a single person, and there is a long way.But I can't help thinking ...
What if in a few years this was a reality for all of us?
I would love to know what you think.Do you get excited or more about keeping caution until you see large -scale results?

It is the same essay that has been published here for about 5 or 6 times.
But yes, it is very promising. It seems that it only needs to do it much larger and now.
En 1922 descubrieron la insulina, en 1930 la insulina lenta. ¿Que c*** han hecho desde entonces?
Progress is being made in the good direction
The time that can happen until I get to everyone ... I don't know ..
But the way has already been found, that is the most important thing.

The truth that it would be incredible to be able to "cure" type I diabetes ... when I read this type of articles I always think how to lead a life without punctures, hypoglycemia and others .... I hope these studies move on

I almost find it impossible to imagine a life without the pump by whistling every 5 minutes because I have hypoglycemia, without change of reservoir, sensor, what do I know ...
I had also read the article, shared by the forum, and after 34 years with diabetes, that news, they make me not lose hope and want to continue fighting with this, because I imagine that I am not the only one who sometimes is very uphill the day to day of this condition.
Courage for everyone, we are together in this and have us to see it come true.

Hello, I just joined the forum, I have 18 and I debuted at 5.
I just found out about this study, where did you find these things?
Is there any option to participate or something? For what I read, I don't believe it but for asking what it is not.
Thank you!!!

Good afternoon, a doubt in my case I am diabetic type 1, because I have stretched the pancreses, which is the product of insulin, could these essays be also valid for my case, what do you think?
Thank you so much

So you are not type 1, you are type 3c that is not autoimmune, even if you are insulin -dependent has nothing to do with type 1

Hello!
I was also removed from the pancreas although they left me a very small piece.
I doubt that is for us 🙃

And our diabetes is not 1, it has nothing to do.Ours is diabetes by exocrine pancreatic pathology.

It does not allow me to respond to a post, so my answer will seem unconnected.
I wanted to answer doubts about the effectiveness of stem cell treatment not recognizable by the immune system in 3C type diabetics, without pancreas or with a small portion, either by removal or chronic pancreatitis.
It is true, as you say, that we are not type1, but we follow the same treatment and do not produce insulin. So I think that TB will benefit that treatment, if it is sold one day.
We would also suffer rejection, if cells outside our body implant us, therefore, in case of receiving a beta transplant/implantation, we would need immunosuppressants for life.
This new treatment would be great, since I think it can be implemented under the skin.

Thanks for the hopes! The truth that I only talked about what my digestive specialist explained to me.Specialized in pancreas, yes, but perhaps more for the exocrine part than endocrine.I didn't look at anything else or ask anyone else. Thanks for sharing !!
