Good morning.

First, I apologize for being so heavy.I am rookie with insulin and it is true that the nurse explained a thousand things and answered my doubts, but they leave more than I did not realize in consultation.

The days that I am out of home all day, how many feathers I have and how do I carry it?I mean: I have to use two different insulins that come in preloaded feathers. Each pen gives me for many days.I carry the ones I am using or carry one of each one?If I have extra, don't you spoil, have left the fridge? If I have extra the pen I didn't use when I got home again?Or is it nonsense to load with all that? For other medications that I used in his day, I have a cold case with a gel bag that freezes, I planned to take it there, I hope not to put the leg ...

Even new consultation they stressed that I would not change the schedule that they scheduled to me, so the slow one is at 3 in the afternoon, I cannot put it before leaving or when you arrive ... that is, that the two feathers go on excursion yes or yes 😅

Thanks in advance.All the best!

Hi @Maguina, welcome to the club that we have once had a thousand doubts when we start with insulin!😊

You are not heavy, quite the opposite, asking is the best you can do, because in the day to day things that in consultation do not occur always come out.

What you raise happened to many.I tell you:

Normally, it is usual to bring with you the feathers you are using (one quickly and one slow). It is not necessary to load with spare parts every day, unless you are going out several days.

Once you open a pen and start used, you no longer need to be in the fridge; It can be carried at room temperature for several weeks (in general up to 4 weeks, but check what the prospect of your insulin indicates).

If you carry an extra pen that is not in use, then it should be refrigerated at home and you would only take it out when you are going to start using it.

The cold case with the gel bag is useful especially in summer or if you are going to be in the street with heat, to be calm that insulin does not spoil. And yes, when they return home, the feathers that are not started should return to the fridge.

At first it looks like a mess, but you will see that you immediately take your own routine and become automatic.

Much encouragement at this stage! And you will see how little by little everything flows. Here we are here to share tricks and experiences, so ask everything you want 😉

A hug,

@Maguina In the cold portfolio, take the feathers in use, they must be below 30 ° C, so it depends on where you go need.

The replacement, one in each, I carry them in a bag with frozen plates and when I get to destination, I put them in the fridge.Even if you break the cold cycle, nothing happens to them.At most they lose some efficiency.

Also take many needles and lancet for capillaries, you never know.I carry a backpack with everyone medications.

In the end it is a routine.

Hello Maguina.

I take spare feathers I see it if you go on a trip, because the day is outside you will not take them. You carry the slow and rapid in use and that's it (I am lucky there because I get the slow when I wake up so I leave it at home).

Now in summer for me the best are the diabeika gel covers, which wets and keeps the insulin cold without passing (eye that if you freeze, heat it can be spoiled, if you freeze it is spoiled safely).

In winter you can take them in your bag quietly, they should not pass 30 degrees so they will be fine.

Much encouragement and ask without problems, that we have all gone through the same doubts.

Thank you all for patience and for the advice, very useful.

The heat, it is subjective 😅, here with 27 ° we beat like fish out of water. But it is true that in the car and all day with the backpack in tow, this, right now, take temperature. It is clear to me that in winter the case is not necessary, I spent the same with the medication I had before.

Today, the second day of insulin and I had to have dinner out 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️, I did not give me to get home and with the scares that I have not risked. And they also sent me to make glycemic profile, click here, click there, the bathroom gives me a little asquete to walk with these things ... a poem .... I guess everything will be used.

Thank you for being there. All the best!
