Allergy sensor patches

hello!I'm writing here because for some time now every time I put on a patch to keep the sensor from coming off I end up with rashes, irritation or wounds on my arm and I have to take them off.I have tried everything: adhesive sprays and nothing;I have tried (following the dermatologist's advice) to hydrate my arm more before having to change the sensor and I ended up the same;Patches for hypoallergenic/more sensitive skin are misleading and I end up with the same problem;I have used films that the dermatologist or my nurse at the health center left me... and I always get a wound after a few days.

Now the hot season is back, when those patches are most commonly used, and I think I can't stand another summer with injuries on my arms or having to change the freestyle every two or three days because it's exasperating (last year I even ended up wearing straps for several weeks because it was more comfortable for me).

I'm trying to get them to switch to the dexcom plus because last year a friend gave me several to try and the patch that came with the sensor irritated me, but not much.I don't have an appointment until July and I don't want to waste these months with my arms full of wounds.

Does anyone have the same thing happen and know of any new tricks I can try?

Do you clean the area where you are going to put the sensor well with alcohol?I clean my skin with alcohol, even if I have just showered, and I hope that the area where I am going to apply the sensor dries well.I use the Libre 3 which, being very small, makes it difficult for you to attach it.It also doesn't irritate my skin like it did with the Libre 2.

It's not just the patches that irritated me, it's that even the free one was a real torture from minute one... Patches happen to me especially in the summer, but not only... I tried different supposedly protective sprays, with three or four layers instead of one or two... and nothing, there was no way, in the end I ended up wearing a bracelet to prevent it from falling off, because on top of that it would half peel off after a few days...

In the end, since I pay for it, I have switched to the dexcom one, and for now, neither the sensor nor the patch that comes with the sensor itself irritates me, let's see later with the heat... it is also smaller and more difficult to hook it on things. And you can put it in more places, not just on your arm.Of course, you almost need a spatula to remove it (I'm seriously considering buying one of those sprays to remove it, because I get small bruises when pulling...).

With the free 3 the same thing happened to me as with the 2 in terms of itching and irritation... and yes, I clean the area well with alcohol even if I have just showered, I hope it dries... it doesn't matter, my skin is awful with tapes and the like...

Hi @isagt,

I don't know what products you used to fix the sensor. Many people talk about skin tac wipes to set the meter and create a protective barrier on the skin, although I have not used them.

In any case, while you wait to change to Dexcom I would try using other parts of the body to give your arms more rest.In addition to testing your arms, thighs, abdomen, or lower back.

This will not solve the skin irritation problems, but at least you are not continuously exposing the same area, and you allow more time for it to recover. When you remove the sensor, use a spray with vitamin E, or moisturizing cream, to soothe the area in the following days.Try not to repeat the same area within 30 days, and perhaps the irritation will not be as strong since the recovery time will have been longer.
