Novopen Digital Insulin Pens

This week the endocrine diabetes educator nurse told me to change my current pens for digital ones, less space, and greater control, and I think it's great.

With these, there is the possibility of keeping personal control of the injections, through the mobile phone with NFC system, to know if my mobile phone accepts transferring this data. In the manual, there is a website to go to and see it, SURPRISE.

I go to the Web: Link and there I see that my mobile phone is not useful to have this data, what a disaster, always with the types of mobile phones to access the data from both the sensors, as now with this.

They will update everything, or now we will have to carry 2 cell phones.

I have been using the NovoPen Echo Plus for almost a year, and it has worked very well for me.

It synchronizes via NFC with the Dexcom One+ application, for which you have to bring the pen close to the back of the mobile phone and it includes the units and injection time in the app.In case the synchronization does not work, you can always see the last injected dose (time and units) on the display of the pen itself.

You can inject half a unit, and I think that for this small amount it is more precise than disposable pens.

My endocrine gave it to me, and you need to be prescribed insulin in Penfill format (it is a cartridge with the same amount of insulin, but it takes up much less space).This pen only works with Novo NorDisk insulins (Fiasp, Novorapid, Tresiba).

They usually prescribe some additional insulin (in disposable pen format) as a backup in case you lose the pen or it fails.You can buy the pen in a pharmacy or online and they cost around 60 euros with a battery that lasts approximately 5 years.When the battery runs out, you can still use the pen to inject, but you won't be able to see the display or sync.

I totally recommend it.

In other words, you have to buy the pen, social security doesn't cover it???And the endocrinologist is clearly the one who prescribes the cartridges.

In the event that they do not give it to you, you want to renew it after five years, or you simply want to have an additional one for security, I mentioned that there is the possibility of buying it online or ordering it at the pharmacy (it costs around 60 euros).

What is essential is that the endocrinologist prescribes insulin in Penfill format, and keeps a disposable pen prescription as a backup just in case (which you only pick up from the pharmacy in case of problems with the smart pen).

If those insulins are not used, I think there is a cap to put on the pen, which also indicates the last dose and the time.

It seems to me that the endocrinologist has already offered it to my daughter.

And it's very good because there can be mistakes.
