Recently, the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS) has authorized Wegovy (Semaglutida). This medicine will be available in pharmacies from May.
Wegovy has proven effective not only to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes when diet and exercise are not enough, but also for weight control in specific situations, provided that it is combined with healthy eating and more activityphysics.
With the new drug for weight control, Wegovy (Semaglutida), it is intended to contribute to alleviate the problems of medication supply such as Ozempic.
So far, only Saxenda was authorized for the indication of weight control but recently several presentations of a new medicine, Wegovy, which are expected to be marketed from May 2024 have been authorized.
It is important to remember that each of us has a unique story with diabetes and weight control. While some can find in Wegovy a useful tool, for others, therapeutic alternatives may be more complex.
AEMPS asks to prioritize prescriptions for glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes, which reminds us of the importance of a personalized and well supervised approach in our treatment.
It is important to ensure that the prescriptions and dispensations of these medications are carried out according to the authorized medical indications to avoid possible complications or unwanted effects.
As always, I recommend discussing any change or new treatment option with your doctor. They may offer the necessary guide according to specific needs and health conditions.
