A recent study has revealed something interesting: the consumption of legumes can decrease by 23% the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
This discovery comes from the analysis of blood samples of 1,833 individuals with high cardiovascular risk participating in the Predimed clinical trial.
What is even more interesting is that, through the use of advanced automatic learning techniques, researchers identified a specific molecular pattern associated with the consumption of legumes, highlighting the presence of 40 metabolites, including several types of lipids.
What this tells us is that, beyond its well -known content in plant proteins, fiber, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals, legumes are promoting healthy eating patterns, aligning with the Mediterranean diet, recognized for its health benefitsand especially for the heart and prevention of metabolic diseases.
Individuals who consumed more legumes also showed greater adhesion to this food pattern, including a greater consumption of dairy, vegetables and fruits, and a lower intake of meat and cereals. This underlines the importance of legumes not only as a component of our diet but as part of a healthier lifestyle.
This study not only highlights the value of legumes in our fight against diabetes but also provides us with a deeper understanding of how our bodies react to the food we consume, opening paths for future research and prevention strategies.
So what does this mean for us?
Well, it is a reminder and a motivation to include more legumes in our diet.Either in salads, stews or as accompaniment, legumes are not only delicious but also powerful allies on our journey to a healthier life.
Has anyone experienced changes in their health or control of diabetes by modifying their diet to include more legumes?
I would love to listen to your experiences!
Greetings,
