A total of 80 athletes, of which 20 are people who have type 1 or type 2 diabetes, took part in the expected III edition of the Wenthic Paddle Tournament that developed, from early in the morning and until 3:00 p.m.Hours, on the spectacular tracks of the Padel Club of La Calzada in Tafira.
Sport and diabetes walk together, again, through a informative and integrative event promoted by the DIAFD project (diabetes, physical activity and sport for diabetes of the island of Gran Canaria), under the slogan "Train your diabetes"born thanks to the agreement between the Insular Institute of Sports of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and the Association of Diabetes for the Island of Gran Canaria (Adigran).
The DIAFD project, with the collaboration of specialized professionals, carried out the previous warming of the participants, in addition to offering free advice for all athletes with diabetes of the tournament with the purpose of guiding in the beneficial of sport and physical exercise as an indispensable part of thecontrol and disease prevention.
The sports test put the climax with a fun rifa with which the participants were able to win many awards in an unforgettable day that combined again, in a fun, playful and instructive way aspects such as diabetes, sport and physical exercise.
The Diafd Project Coordinator, Jesús Alexis Socorro, graduated in Sciences of Physical Activity and Sports, Dietetics and Nutrition and Specialist in Physical Exercise and Diabetes, said that “these types of beneficial tournaments, which unite sport and diabetological education,They are fundamental to make diabetes and encourage sports practices in people with diabetes ».
