Apple has been trying to develop a glucometer for the Apple Watch. This sensor would allow to monitor blood sugar levels, something crucial for the mllones of people in the world that suffer from diabetes and that must constantly monitor those levels.

Until now that challenge - whose name in Code seems to be E5 - has been elusive, but according to Bloomberg, the Cupertino -based company has achieved promising advances that make them think that they will offer this product in the near future.

Apple are developing the technology called silicon photonics and a measurement system called optical absorption spectroscopy.A laser is emitted with a specific wavelength that allows the skin to be crossed and that, when reflected, allow to analyze the concentration of glucose.

The project works hundreds of engineers, and in fact there are more staff in this project than in the autonomous Apple car or its mixed reality glasses. The impact of such a breakthrough could be very remarkable for Apple, which for a long time guides its smart watch to the field of health.

The technology developed is currently in the proof of concept phase, and according to sources close to the project in Apple believe that it is viable, but it must be reduced in size in order to have practical application.

Apparently a previous version was placed on top of a table, and now they are working on a system that would be the size of an iPhone and would be tied to the biceps of the person, as themobile when running.

It remains to be seen if Apple finally develop this sensor to integrate it into its Apple Watch. The appearance of one of these watches with that sensor seems to take yet to arrive.

But a continuous laser crossing the skin ...
I prefer what is now, that it will be perfected more.

A laser is only light of a certain wavelength.

What is now is based on measuring the glucose of the interstitial fluid. And there will always be a big difference with blood glucose.

In fact, between the first Dexcom of 20 years ago and the current freestyle there is hardly any improvement in precision. Moreover, in my opinion it was more precise that of 20 years ago.

Unless they will measure directly from the blood, there will never be improvements, stop dreaming impossible things.Thinking that as it looks more like the current one it is more possible. It is the other way around.

O It is done with laser or is done with a device directly connected to the bloodstream. With all the problems and inconvenience that would bring.

The option that seems viable would be a chip inserted in vein, such as stents and transmitted to a reader, without expiration. That would be measured in blood, but it is not interested because the sparks of the replacement leaves

15 years or more, one thing called pendra (search it, is still information on the Internet) that was a clock that measured the glucose in a non -intrusive way. They came to put him in Danish Social Security, and in Spain there were even pirates that were going to import it and sell it at the price of gold. The problem was that in patients really gave a lot more dispersion than clinical trials, and they had to withdraw it.
