Self -care plays an important role in patients. It must focus on having an adequate food plan, continuing to perform physical activity and monitor glucose.

The parties were accompanied by abundant dishes that are part of the celebrations, as well as high drinks in sugars and a wide variety of desserts.

Dr. Rubén Silva Tinoco, an endocrinologist and expert in diabetes management, said that this season becomes "a challenge" to control diabetes, although it is not something impossible.

“We must be aware that self -care plays an important role in patients, especially at this time.We must focus on having an adequate food plan, continuing physical activity and monitoring glucose, ”he said.

He commented that if necessary, checks should be made more frequently and follow the treatment prescribed by the doctor.

Diabetes care tips
The specialist said that although there is no reason to give up the parties, but it must be taken into account that these celebrations can cause an important lack of control of diabetes.

That is why efforts have to be redoubled and avoid falling into the temptation of food excesses.

To avoid the imbalance of glucose both in the December season and in January that the thread of Reyes continues, the expert recommends:

1.- Reduce carbohydrates. The taste of food is not fought with health. But you can replace the dishes with high sodium and sugar content.

2.- Moderate alcohol consumption. It is important to consume in moderation and, preferably, choose low gradation drinks such as beer or wine.

3.- Stay active.Physical activity has a primary role in the lives of patients with diabetes, since it helps to reduce blood glucose levels. In addition, it improves the ability to absorb insulin and lower cholesterol levels.

4.- Check glucose levels.Another recommendation is to review blood sugar levels more frequently to avoid decompensations.

5.- Follow medical treatment. The main recommendation is to follow the treatment as indicated by the doctor to have successful diabetes control.

Since patients with type 2 diabetes have higher heart risk, it is essential to provide patients with a therapeutic strategy.Which in addition to controlling blood glucose levels, helps reduce the risk of complication and/or mortality from heart disease.

"At present, there are a greater number of medication options to achieve this purpose," said the specialist.

For example, he added, for a decade there has been a class of medications known as DPP-4 or gliptin inhibitors.

Same that have proven to be effective and safe in reducing blood glucose levels of people with type 2 diabetes.

With these tips and medical monitoring, it is possible to enjoy well -being and quality of life.

Will it be because I used the continuous monitor to Rajataba?

Why have I retained a little more with the community and drink?

These have been my first Christmas with fast (the previous two only made me slow)
I started with fear, and, as I knew I was going to have a glass of wine or even some rum, I was trying to go a little high of blood glucose because of hypoglycemia.
In general, I have gone quite well, I have not had any hyper or hypo dignified mention, and the truth that I have drunk and eaten much more than I thought at first.
Of course, sweets or try them.I've never been to eat sweets or cakes, so now less.
What has missed me is the issue of alcohol. On Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve I have drunk a lot (2 or 3 drinks of wine eating and 2 or 3 cups of Ron-Cola Zero later) but I have not had any hiccups or anything. All perfect during the evening. And then at night and in the morning all normal.
The truth is that I am happy for how everything has gone.Even for some moments I felt a "normal" person. You already understand me.

These have been my second Christmas and I have taken it better than the previous ones.My honeymoon is over and I haven't done my new insulin needs yet.I have since November with higher values and greater resistance to go down.I am very conservative with the fast doses because I am afraid of hypoglycemia, I prefer to fall short and then correct little to pass and have a low of those cold sweats, accelerated heart and mental mist.
The fact is that I have not had any outstanding hyper or hypo and I have been able to enjoy meals testing nougat, wine and even roscón in Reyes. In small quantities and very vigilant with the curve.
And, surprisingly, I have kept the weight.
I hope to recover the balance of healthier values without having drops that force me to correct with pecks, to see if I achieve it.

It has been curious because when I have been drinking alcohol these days, glycemia has been minded throughout the time and then.

For example, on the 25th I was all afternoon with friends.Upon arriving, at about 5 in the afternoon, I went with 100 dive.As I knew that in the end I was going to take the occasional rum cup, because what I did was eat a small sweet that was there at the table to climb the blood glucose.

I put on 150 and I was already like this, 3 or 4 hours in which the curve did not move at all.I think I remember that I took about 3-4 glasses.

I just looked at the night of that day, and all night at 110-120.He even rose to 140-150 at 6-7 in the morning. No hypo.

The other days of meals and parties more or less the same.

Yes it is true that on other occasions (this summer, my birthday, some food or dinner with friends ...), I did notice a clear descent at 7-8 hours after the last cup, without getting to hiccups but notable down, that corrected with a cookie or similar.Never worrying.

The truth is that I am losing a little respect to the issue of taking some alcohol from time to time.

I know it is not a good idea and that most of you will have had important scares, but as the saying goes:
"No one escorted by the head of others"

PD: What I usually take is a couple of red wine glasses in the food and if the 2-3 rum glasses with a zero tail (a pair of fingers from a normal cup take two).Of course, nuts to stop a truck, and I always wear nuts, almonds, hazelnuts and pistachios.I love them.
