What is considered moderate quantity (of a food) in diabetes?

walky's profile photo   02/17/2021 10:04 p.m.

Hello, as I said in other posts, I was diagnosed for prediabetes for obesity.I am leaving weight, prey to terror ... but I always went and I am still the queen of bananas.I like one with breakfast and snack another too.

Investigating food to avoid diabetes ... Tachánnn: bananas.Well, they say that rather than avoiding, it is advisable to consume in moderation.

Moderation ... that abstract concept.How much is it?Twice a week?Once a day?

Forgive the chorras questions that I ask, but on the Internet there are 984394860 pages with contradictory information and here you give me concrete information that I thank very much.

Hello good,

The theme of banana is that it is considered a "mixed" food, it has rapid absorption sugars and also slow absorption, for me it is like taking a rice plate to get an idea.

A very factor to consider is its maturity, and if you take banana instead of banana better because it has less sugar.

Moderation also depends on the total calories you eat per day, but I would tell you that you take 1 every 2 days ... if it is less better but to get an idea.

If you have prediabetes you will have enough insulin resistance and bananas would not be the most recommended, just like any other food that has many fast hydrates (bread, pasta, juices, rice ...).
It is not that you cannot eat it, but I would tell you that to improve your situation it is best that you lower the hydrates to the fullest and fill yourself eating other things with little hydrates and that they save: many varied vegetables, proteins of all kinds (animalsThey do not have hydrates and vegetables normally yes but a legumes if you do not pass quantity can be a good option), the dairy ever without sugar and cheeses in any principle, nuts, olives ...
Fruits It is better to moderate consumption and choose those that have less sugar such as red fruits, strawberries, coconut, avocado. And those that have more sugar if you fancy any try to buy them smaller or eat only medium. For example, banana almost as but once I buy the little ones I find or as only means, thus the amount of hydrates is much smaller. It also helps to eat them at the end of the food, with the stomach full of vegetable fiber the absorption of fruit sugar is much slower that way.

Over time, insulin resistance is surely improving if you do things well and you can eating some more hydrates without glucose. If you don't have a glucometer try to get one and wipe before and two hours after meals, you'll see what you get most and you can leave it, eat less quantity or eat it only at specific times.

Exercise also helps a lot, especially force. If you can afford it to a coach who taught you is the best time and then continue your alone with what you learn.

@Walky

Follow the advice that YESSICA and MARINE have given you

It's not that you can't eat banana.

Simplely. In your case, you have to reduce weight, the problem is that excess carbohydrates type pasta, bread, rice the body keeps them in the form of fats! And that is what you have to avoid.

You have to do 2 things in parallel. But both!: Reduce the consumption of rapid action carbohydrates (without fiber) and move.

For example, if you like bananas. You can do one thing, take a breakfast a banana but then you will have to walk a minimum hour! That will help the body burn excess carbohydrates. If you take a banana and then feel: error. You will accumulate fats.It is very simple. You have to burn the carbohydrates that you take.Ahh and avoids the excess of saturated fats as plague: an example fried potatoes and Bolleria.

You have to learn to eat.Read the label of what you eat and learn to interpret it.And eat very varied and without excesses.Ah, it's not about diet.Another error. But change the way you eat.You have to eat well, with a lot of vegetables, chicken, eggs, fish. But avoid fried.

Ask whenever you want.A nutritionist would help you a lot

But remember: eat few rapid action carbohydrates (bread, potatoes, pasta, rice) and a lot of movement. You don't need to do 10 km running every day.Just walking after meals, at least half an hour, will help you a lot.

You have to be regular. No hurry.Do not try to lose much suddenly.Another error.Gradually.But constant. You will see the results in a few months.
The more gradual the better

All the best

Marine, Yesssica_a, Jldiazdel, thank you very much for your advice.

I started with 97 kg today three weeks ago and now I am at 90.5kg.
I have eliminated refined flours, only as 100% integral bread at breakfast and, once a week, integral macaroni with a skimmed natural yogurt sauce that I do with lemon, dill and garlic powder.

It is that I am worried because the endocrine prescribed me a daily pill of metformin but it gave me many nausea and I left them, and although the doctor's doctor knows it and says that I do not worry because I do not have established diabetes, but hey, I am worried.

The banana, well, I will take it every two or three days.Today I have varied and instead of the integral bread I have taken half a glass of skim milk with 4 or 5 strawberries.

The vegetable is what I carry and on top of my favorite vegetable that is the carrot, apparently it also has certain "buts" for diabetes.

I have to increase my exercise, I walk half an hour daily at a fast pace, but I have to do more.I can't do much on my knee either.

Thank you for taking the time to answer me.

You go along the way!

Why do you worry about your diet. You look at the food composition.

I am convinced that you will lose weight and that will help you a lot.

Ah, carrots are not bad.It is a vegetable with more carbohydrates than others but you don't have to stop eating them.So you get an idea: about 200 gr have about 14 gr of carbohydrates, that is, almost half of what a large banana has !!And 200 gr of carrots will fill you a lot.A more interesting option. You just have to know what you eat and move.

You have to search for "glycemic index" of food. The higher worse for your pancreas and everyone's because it generates a high glycemia peak in a short time.

In the end all this is summarized in times of absorption. Also a technique to use is to mix some rapid absorption with some slow (basically things with fiber) thus digestion slows down and damping that peak.

It is a shame of leaving the metformin, I don't know why but it helps to lose weight, at least in my case and according to I have read there are people who are not diabetic and use it for that, how bad it has are the side effects but with theTime are referring, I have been taking it almost three years and although it seems a lie it is a derivative of a plant, that is, natural medicine that is what people like

@Walky Metformin needs assimilation time in the body.I would not have left it, because it will help you more to reach good levels of glucose and lose weight, as @Alberto_13 says
Cheer up!

Hi.

The truth is that I feel bad by leaving the metformin, I made a hike twice that this pill generated nausea and it was not for anything else.I left it, I took it again and when the day, it did not fail, I had nausea that only sent if the next day I did not take the pill.

I worry that when I go within three months to make me the following analysis, my glycosylated hemoglobin remains high, although I am with a strict diet, looking for info on food, doing little by little exercise and leaving enough weight.

I would like to talk to my endocrine about metformin, it is she who prescribed it to me, but I have no access to her, only to the header who told me not to worry about leaving the metformin, which since I do not have the "established" diabetes, if I keep leaving weight I go well without medication.

Thanks for your advice, I am very happy that this forum exists.Today I have taken a puree of vegetables that had a pair of cooked carrots and then I have taken a skimmed yogurt to which I have thrown oatmeal to incorporate fiber.

Metformin is horrible, gives nausea and you get bad.I took it 4 days and went to Super Fast insulin.Luckily because I couldn't eat stomach pain.

Do more exercise and reduce fats in addition to CH.Especially in the afternoons we usually rest more than in the morning. You will get it!

@Walky As I said, you need assimilation time.A couple of weeks perhaps, it also gave me nausea at the beginning.
It is best to take it little by little (for example start with half a pill) and always after eating (immediately).

Personally there are brands that I have proven that they feel worse. Now I take Cinfa and although the pills are fatter and get worse, I think they feel better.I have not noticed its adverse effects for a long time.

On the other hand, @walky in your particular case, I do not recommend eating any type of puree. The vegetable always as cooked and chopped as possible. In puree the glucose rises very quickly.

@Walky

That food is very good, but it would be even better if you did not pure.It is better to chew the vegetable.Purés enter very fast and also one has the feeling that it takes little when sometimes there is a lot of vegetables. The same with smoothies or shakes or juices.Eliminate them.Chew the vegetable, eat the entire fruit. You will know better what you take and also fill you more
All the best

You will see, I left the metformin because in the prospect I said that if adverse effects were noticeable it could be lactic acidosis, which although it is an effect that happens to few people, can cause death. Then I stopped taking it and returned two days later to check if the nausea were for the pill or not.Seeing that the nausea returned to me, I grated myself with acidosis and left them.

Now I am grated because I do not take them and I do not know if the sugar is going down, the point is that I am always grated, hahaha.

To which you have to add that I have dizziness, well, as always that I get on diet, and I get frustrated because it makes it difficult to exercise.

The good thing is that I have left seven kilos and the belly already "does not throw me" so much, nor do the kidneys hurt when walking half an hour: smiley:

Thanks for the Council of the Purés, I will limit them too.It is that the vegetable only likes it in puree. It is seen that if I like something, even if it is a vegetable or fruit, it is not entirely healthy, hahaha
