The Paraguayan Diabetology Society is carrying out an awareness campaign to the general population about diabetes. They emphasize that dengue epidemic can cause serious complications and even death to patients with it or other diseases.
Given the outbreak of suspected and confirmed dengue cases that currently faces our country, Dr. Andrés Giménez, alerts immunocompromised patients to be more careful in prevention against this disease.
"People suffering from diseases such as diabetes, obesity, some type of cancer or who are receiving some treatment for some chronic disease are prone to suffer from a much more serious and aggressive type of dengue than the rest of the people. ThereforeWe must fight strongly in the prevention of this disease, "Giménez explained.
This is because these people already meet the low defenses and when dengue contracting, the first thing that it does is attack the platelets decreasing even more defenses and destroying all white blood cells which causes more risk of having heart attacks, spills, renal failure, bleeding and even death.
Diabetes, another epidemic suffered by Paraguayans:
9.7 % of Paraguay's adult population suffers from diabetes (data published by the MSPyBS 2011), that is, one in 10 people has diabetes. This figure is increasing to alarming numbers.Worldwide 463 million people suffer from diabetes and it is estimated that by 2025 this number will double.
Diabetes is a multifactorial disease, that is, there are several factors that intervene so that a person has this disease, the most important risk factors are obesity, genetics, lack of physical activity, poor diet, among others.
Diabetes is a disease that can be prevented if we identify the risk factors in time.
Diabetes complications are cardiac infarction, stroke (cerebral spill), member amputations, renal insufficiency, blindness, is increasing due to lack of timely treatment.
Diabetes is the new pandemic of the century, together with obesity.
In our country the first cause of death are due to cardiovascular disease produced by diabetes and arterial hypertension.
In this year 2020, the Paraguayan Society of Diabetology together with several associations and institutions are joined to carry out the massive awareness campaign, educating and teaching the population about the terrible consequences of not diagnosing and being treated in time and urges everyone to consult theDoctor to perform a medical check -up.
