The television cook Alberto Chicote has joined the activities of the Alliance for Diabetes group, which this year has chosen Ponferrada (León) to make a route walking to promote healthy habits in front of that disease.
It is the third year that Chicote collaborates with this agency and the first one they visit Ponferrada, after their BAS path was selected by social networks with most votes, 4,000, of users.
More than two hundred people joined a healthy diet linked to sport, which are the two bases that are considered fundamental to stop the rapid increase in diabetes, which can do it pandemic, according to WHO, in the coming years.
Chicote considers that "educating from children in food" is the key to restricting a problem that in the region of El Bierzo (León) suffer more than 10,000 people, according to the doctor José María Pelayo, to which we must add 4,000 more that do not knowthat suffer from the disease.
14 percent of the population has diabetes in El Bierzo, a figure that for Pelayo is high and continues to rise.
However, Chicote acknowledges that the population's concern for a healthy diet is increasingly.
But he acknowledges that the fight is in food promotions that are not so healthy in the face of medical recommendations.
"You have to try that schools transmit knowledge about healthy eating," Efe told EFE before starting the diabetes walk.
Next to it have walked many children who consider that they are the key for the future to "do not allow that pandemic" and has expressed concern for child diabetes.
The route, of just over an hour, did not travel exactly the path of the BAS, but the city over five kilometers of solidarity and promotion of healthy life.
