Can people with type 2 diabetes drink alcohol?

According to UK Diabetes, it is possible that a person with this condition consumes alcohol. As long as he is aware of the consequences in his body.

Alcohol consumption in people with type 2 diabetes may increase the possibilities of having hypoglycemia.Because alcohol produces a decrease in blood sugar levels. On the other hand, it can affect the weight because of the calories contained in it.

Type 2 diabetes appears when a person's body does not have the ability to control the amount of glucose in the blood and therefore does not respond to insulin properly. In this sense, there are some alcoholic beverages that should be avoided to keep the glucose level under control.

The following are the drinks that you should definitely avoid so as not to trigger health complications.

low sugar and cider beers

The following may seem crazy but even if you don't believe it, you should avoid low sugar or diabetic drinks. This is because having less sugar usually contain more alcohol.

Even some English beers and cider contain carbohydrates that increase the blood sugar level.

low alcohol wines

With this alternative something similar happens, because having low alcohol content usually provides more sugar than normal. To choose this option it is recommended to take only one glass or maximum two.Avoid drinks with a lot of sugar such as sweet cherries, sweet wines and liquors.

However, dry liquors and wines can be a better option, as well as cooks prepared with diet or sugar -free drinks.Do not forget that the best option not to risk your health is to avoid alcohol consumption and carry a healthy diet.

Hello, is a glass of wine or a third of beer (with alcohol) better?
The best water is clear but when you leave food or dinner you want to drink a beer or wine glass.
Zero or sugar drinks do not make me funny but ever happens.
Thank you

@Susal red wine practically does not have carbohydrates so the glucose will raise very little.Beer if you have enough hydrates. What you have to be careful is with sweet wines.Between red wine and beer better wine.
