20 Zamoranos and 9 Vallisoletanos with diabetes join in a new training of the challenge 'walk through diabetes to Santiago 2018'.The training, which has been held this Sunday, April 15, has consisted of making a circular route of about 18 km with departure in the town of Abelon (Zamora)

This is a preparation walk for the challenge

This walk is part of an ambitious physical training program, supervised by several doctors or educators and that the participants began in the month of February, to face the Camino de Santiago.Specifically, all of them, together with other people with diabetes from Zaragoza, Santiago, Orense, Madrid, Valencia and Oviedo, among other provinces, will culminate this challenge by making seven stages of the road, from June 2 to 9, between the town of Tuiand Santiago de Compostela.

This initiative, promoted by the Diabetes Foundation with the support of Novo Nordisk, and which has the collaboration of the Association of Diabetics of Zamora (Adiza) and the Valladolid Diabetes Association (Adiva), aims to demonstrate the benefits ofPerform physical activity to improve diabetes control

The 'Challenge walks through diabetes to Santiago 2018' is part of a wide awareness campaign called "Reta to Diabetes", which aims to change the mentality of people with diabetes, motivating and instilling in them the need to incorporate the exerciseTo your daily life and, at the same time, transmit the message that sports can be done with diabetes and overcome any challenge.

This year the challenge consists of two itineraries -the Portuguese path and the Navarro road.People with diabetes from the associations of Navarra, Vizcaya, Guipúzcoa, Álava and El Bierzo participate in this second itinerary, among others, and its tour will take place from Roncesvalles to Logroño, between May 27 and June 3.

In addition, the participants of this 'Challenge walk through diabetes 2018' are part of a scientific study that will analyze the benefits of physical activity in improving the control of type 2 diabetes that will be coordinated by Serafín Murillo, an advisor in nutrition and sportsof the Diabetes Foundation, and researcher in the Diabetes Unit and Cyberdem Exercise of the Clinic Hospital in Barcelona.
