The Virgen de la Salud hospital in Toledo and Lilly have collaborated to install an educational game area, 'Play Zone', for children with diabetes in the center, conditioning the waiting room for pediatrics consultations.
The intervention, which has already been carried out at the General Hospital of Albacete and the General Hospital of Ciudad Real, aimsand normalize this disease.
The minors diagnosed with this pathology have to go to hospital consultations once or twice a week and every two or three months when the treatment is stabilized. This project seeks to reduce the level of stress that it is for them to go to the hospital.
The space includes games, tables and chairs for children to entertain and paint, in addition to several educational stories starring 'La Monita Coco', the first Disney character with diabetes, which teaches in a fun and simple way that diabetes is not aimpediment for children to practice the sport they like best.
With a pleasant and simple language, these stories explain how Coco can make the same life as other children of their age, provided that their illness is planned and known. The character arises thanks to a worldwide agreement achieved by Lilly and Disney to reduce the impact of diabetes on childhood.
"We are very happy to offer this new space, we have contributed to this initiative to develop in 30 health centers throughout Spain, and we know that it has a very positive impact both in minors who expect consultation, or not have diabetes, as well as in theFamily members who accompany them.
