The association recalls that the figure of educator in diabetes does not exist at the Regional Hospital and criticizes that this replaces retired endocrines with interinities.
The Bierzo Diabetics Association (ADEBI) denounces the lack of specialists and professionals to serve patients in the region, which according to the census that the association manages, amounts to more than 10,000 people.
The president of the collective, Pedro Mora, is missing the figure of an educator for diabetes that does not currently exist at the Bierzo Hospital and would be responsible for advising the sick, evaluating diets or behaviors that can be beneficial or harmful and helpTo alleviate the knowledge deficits around a disease that despite the large number of people who suffer - almost 10% of the inhabitants of the Bierzo are diagnosed - is sometimes difficult to detect or treat.
"Diabetes is a chronic disease and patients need knowledge for their self -care that cannot be transmitted in a half -hour consultation," he explains.
And it is that the lack of a professional of this profile in the region joins the lack of personnel."Since two endocrine retired, their positions are being covered based on interinities," says Mora, who believes there are not enough professionals to attend the current number of patients in the region.
Therefore, the association this year has proposed to cover the absence of educators and specialists and carry out workshops and advice work for the patients who need it and are not yet receiving personalized attention, a work that in any case, the president, the presidentFrom the collective he considers that it can be a "complement, but never a substitution", so he expects measures to be taken.
On the other hand, the association began this weekend with the excursions they carry out to promote the benefits of physical exercise for both diabetes patients and people without the disease.
The first was held this Saturday and made a twelve kilometers tour from the adebi offices to the bridges of Malpaso. On February 4, a tour of El Pajariel and March 4 will be held on the Boeza Bridge.
